#NapoAGM21 Dame Vera Baird addresses conference. She is very pleased Napo has finally come to Newcastle. Vera has been a strong supporter of Napo and probation and has ways stood by our side to fight privatisation.
#NapoAGM21 Since probation has had a duty to victims, the service is recruiting victim liaison officers, this year will receive additional funding and better monitoring of caseloads. It helps victims to have updates and information.
#NapoAGM21 Time to learn - time for training: 5% workload relief is not enough to mentor trainee probation officers. We need to do things differently and give people the time and space to learn. Motion was carried.
#NapoAGM21 2/2 Probation has been put through the trauma of TR crushing morale. Staff have gone above and beyond during Covid. Some staff are on 198% of the workload management tool. Freezing our pay is cutting our pay. Motion is carried - Napo vote to STRIKE!
#NapoAGM21 Emergency motion 3: Action on Probation Pay Now. Although we have debated pay we need stronger action. We need a pay rise now! Our employer isn’t allowed to give us a pay rise even if they wanted to. We need this motion to strengthen our hand in pay talks 1/2
A little bit of @Napo_News memorabilia - a gavel from the 1950s presented to the northern branch of Napo (now @Naponorthumbria branch). I’m sure @katielomas99 will be making good use of it during the sessions over the next few days.
#NapoAGM21 Is it all really this bleak? The damage done to probation by Grayling will take years to repair. Is there any hope? Napo is the hope, holding the employer to account, keeping staff safe at work and collective power.
#NapoAgm2021 New Minister #KitMalthouse receives polite but lukewarm reception after addressing conference. Positive initiatives yes, but they will need money Minister; and so will #probation staff who have been treated abysmally on pay
Govt haven’t announced the outcome of the review body for prison staff. No written statement, absolutely nothing. I wonder if the review body have recommended something they don’t like and they will delay until after the summer recess. Steve Gillan Gen Sec.
I prosecute murderers while you pose in hi-vis, dog whistling about “chain gangs”.
I prosecute rapists while you prolong the agony of victims by cutting criminal justice to the bone.
One of us is acting against the interests of the public,
@BorisJohnson.
It’s not me.
Instead of making offenders wear high viz jackets in chain gangs, how about helping them get a real job instead? In my shops we employ lots of ex offenders and they wear a shirt and tie. Same people, different approach, a much better outcome.
@katielomas99 @Napo_News Thanks Katie. A poignant day for sure; but one that we could only have dreamed of seven long and painful years ago.
Many wrote #Napo off but they probably did not appreciate the determination and courage of our #Probation#PBNI & #FCS members & those who supported our cause.
Here are my thoughts on the last day of Probation Privatisation. A poignant day to remember the great harms done to our profession and the people and communities we serve #ReunifiedProbation#FreeProbation#Napo#Probation @Napo_News
