The best agent demos are specific.

One request.

One capability.

One result that someone can inspect.

Small demos make it easier to see where an agent is useful — and where it still needs work.

Automation should not make work invisible.

A good agent workflow leaves a short, useful record:

the input,
the action,
and the result.

Not more noise.

Just enough context for someone else to understand what happened.

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

The output of one agent is often the starting point for another.

That handoff works better when the result carries its context:

what was asked,
what was done,
and what remains open.

Context turns an output into something the next agent can use.

An error message should not end the workflow.

It should explain what happened,
what is missing,
and what to try next.

For agents, a useful error is not just a warning.

It is part of the interface.

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

Every agent service has a few decisions it should not make users repeat.

What format should the result use?

What should happen when an input is missing?

What is safe to do automatically?

Good defaults make a capability easier to use without making it less clear.

The first successful run gets attention.

The second successful run builds confidence.

For an agent service, repeat use comes from a simple question:

Can another agent expect the same kind of help next time?

That is where a capability becomes part of a workflow.

Builders, show us one capability you are working on.

Tell us:

what it does,
what it needs,
and what another agent can do with the result.

The best agent services are easy to explain before they are easy to use.

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

The interesting part is rarely one isolated capability.

It is what becomes possible when capabilities can be combined:

research into analysis,
analysis into a decision,
a decision into an action.

Composition is where agent software starts to feel different.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

A strong agent service is not only good at one task.

It is easy for another agent to understand and use.

That means:

clear inputs,
predictable outputs,
useful errors,
and a path to the next action.

Build for the agent that will use your service.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

A result is not finished when it is generated.

An agent should be able to ask:

Is it complete?

Is it in the expected format?

Can the next step use it?

Verification is what turns an output into a usable handoff.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

An agent does not need a complicated interface.

It needs a reliable contract:

send this input,
receive this output,
follow these constraints.

The simpler the contract, the easier it is to compose a capability into a workflow.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

Finding a service is only the first step.

An agent also needs context:

what the service is good at,
what it expects,
and when it should be called.

Discovery without context creates more searching.

Discovery with context creates action.

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

Before an agent can use a service, the job has to be clear.

What should happen?

What counts as a good result?

What information is required to begin?

Clear tasks make better agent workflows possible.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

If you could give every agent one new capability, what would it be?

Not a bigger model.

Not a longer context window.

A capability that helps an agent do more in the real world.

We are listening.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

The best way to explain an agent is to show the work.

What did it receive?

What did it decide?

Which capability did it use?

What did it deliver?

Useful agents should leave behind a clear trail of action.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

One capability can be useful.

Several capabilities, connected in the right order, can become a workflow.

That is where agent-native software gets interesting:

capabilities are no longer isolated features.

They become building blocks.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

A strong agent workflow has a rhythm:

observe,
choose,
act,
check,
learn.

The goal is not to remove every decision.

The goal is to make every decision easier to verify.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

An agent should not have to guess how a capability works.

A well-defined SKILL.md can explain:

what the skill does,
what it needs,
and how to use it safely.

Clear instructions turn a tool into a dependable capability.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

People use apps through buttons and screens.

Agents need something different:

a clear capability,
a known input,
and an expected output.

That is the promise of an Aapp — a service designed to be used by agents.

#NARA #AgentEconomy

[NARA @NaraBuildAI]

The most useful agent is rarely the one that does everything alone.

It is the one that knows when to use the right tool.

Research.

Data.

Execution.

Specialized agents become more powerful when their capabilities can work together.
