A man’s life should not be taken for a word.

If the reported death sentence against Sri Lankan migrant worker Anojan Sivarasa is confirmed, I hope Saudi Arabia will show the mercy that lies at the heart of every great faith.

A religion that has endured for centuries cannot be diminished by a perceived insult. Its greatness is not so fragile that it needs a life in response to a word.

I urge the Saudi authorities to keep the path to mercy open.

Former Foreign Minister Ali Sabry has urged Saudi authorities to show mercy and grant clemency to Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa following reports that his five-year prison sentence has been escalated to a death sentence.

Sabry described the reported punishment for an offensive social media comment as “grossly disproportionate, inhumane and unacceptable.”

He also called on the Sri Lankan government to secure effective legal assistance and pursue urgent diplomatic intervention at the highest level.

“Justice must leave room for compassion. Anojan deserves the chance to return to his family and rebuild his life,” Sabry said.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry has not confirmed the reported death sentence, and the formal written judgment is awaited.

Claim that Chinmoy Krishna Das is being "targeted for being Hindu" is misleading.

His case is a law-and-order issue, NOT RELIGIOUS persecution.

1. ISKCON itself banned him - for CHILD SAFETY issues:

ISKCON International Child Protection Office issued a formal letter against Chinmoy Krishna.

Restrictions imposed:
- Not to hold any management or leadership position
- Not to give class or lead kirtan
- No public worship
- *NO CONTACT WITH ANY PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS"
- No overnight stay at any ISKCON property

On 28 Nov 2024 press conference, ISKCON Bangladesh General Secretary Charu Chandra Das confirmed, He was initially suspended for 3 months to allow investigation after multiple children accused him, but failed to comply with instructions, which led to PERMANENT EXPULSION in July 2024. ISKCON said his actions do not represent ISKCON.

2. He faces 6 CRIMINAL cases, not 1.

Sedition Case (Kotwali PS, 31 Oct 2024): For hoisting saffron flag above Bangladesh national flag at Laldighi Maidan rally. Arrested at Dhaka Airport on 25 Nov 2024.

Murder Case: After his bail was rejected, protests turned violent in Chattogram on 26 Nov 2024 where lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death. Chinmoy indicted with 38 others under Sec 302 & 109.

Four Other Cases: Vandalism, obstruction of police duties, assault on lawyers, attempted murder, COCKTAIL EXPLOSION - all from 26 Nov violence.

So he is in jail for sedition + murder + police obstruction cases, and was already expelled by ISKCON a year before his arrest for child protection violations.

HE IS NOT SOME HINDU SAINT, AND LETS NOT MAKE HIM A HERO ONLY BECAUSE HE IS A HINDU!
