No human can have 100% attention all the time.
Neither the parent nor the driver. It’s completely normal to have a momentary lapse in attention.
Instead, the biggest blame goes on the road design and the authorities who built it.
This type of accident is almost impossible in most developed countries because they are not depending on human errors.
There is no proper marking of where the road is and where the footpath is. Here the road is so close that it’s almost the front yard of the home. In such cases, the whole area should be marked a pedestrian zone with speed breakers, extremely narrow roads, elevated walking lanes and a speed limit of less than 10kmph.
Children’s lives should not depend upon the split second mistakes made by drivers or parents. The system’s design should be such that even if both make a mistake, it does not lead to a disaster.
🇨🇳 China Today: Truce Extended, Yuan Strong, Profits Slowing
- US–China tensions are easing for now, the yuan is at a 3.5-year high, and industrial profits are still growing, but more slowly. That's mildly risk-on, not a guarantee.
1. Trade Truce Extended to January 2027
The two sides agreed to an agriculture working group, US coal imports, wider access for foreign banks in China, an AI incident channel, and continued flight talks.
In the 2020 Phase One deal, China met only about 58% of its purchase promises. Promises don't always turn into purchases.
This buys time; it isn't a final deal. It lowers short-term tariff risk and could help US farm and coal sectors.
2. Yuan at Its Strongest Since February 2023 (~6.7085)
The *midpoint* is the daily reference rate set by the PBOC. It shows which direction Beijing wants the yuan to move.
A strong fixing signals confidence, goodwill toward the US, and an effort to attract capital. Because the AED is pegged to the dollar, **Chinese imports become more expensive in AED terms**.
3. Liquidity Injections (~1.1 trillion yuan)
These are mostly **seasonal cash needs** before quarter-end and Golden Week (October 1–8). The rate stayed at 1.40%, so this is **not stimulus**.
4. Industrial Profits
**Facts:** Profits were up 15.7% in January–August, versus 17.6% in January–July. August alone was up only 4.2%.
Growth continues, but momentum is fading, which hints at weak domestic demand.
Market Impact
Chinese and Hong Kong stocks, the Australian dollar, and copper could get support, with mild pressure on the US dollar.
Risks
- The truce is short; failed talks could bring volatility back in January.
- China could fall short on purchases.
- A yuan that gets too strong could hurt exporters.
- Chip export controls are not covered by this truce.
Watch Next
1. Year-end trade talks
2. The yuan around 6.70
3. China PMI (September 30 / October 1)
4. Actual soybean and coal purchases
5. Any PBOC rate cut
What would change this view: collapsing talks, a sharp yuan reversal, or weak upcoming data.
🇯🇵 BOJ Minutes: The Board Is Hawkish, and the Next Hike Isn't Far Off
📌 Data surprised to the upside
Japan's Services PPI came in at 3.7% (forecast 3.6%). Services inflation is "sticky" because it's tied to wages, and it's the measure the BOJ watches most closely.
📌 4 big signals from the minutes
1️⃣ Long-term inflation expectations are rising for both households and companies.
2️⃣ Companies are passing higher costs on to customers, and the weak yen is adding to inflation.
3️⃣ The policy rate is still below neutral. Some members called for faster hikes.
4️⃣ Warning: if markets think the BOJ is behind the curve, long-term yields could climb further.
📌 But here's the twist
In September, the BOJ raised rates to 1.25% (the highest since 1995), yet the yen still weakened. The reason: 2 members voted against the hike, and the government prefers easy money.
🔮 My prediction
• Next hike: December or January
• USD/JPY: range-bound short term, yen stronger over the medium term
• JGB yields: uptrend continues
• Nikkei: supported by the weak yen, but expect more volatility
⚠️ The biggest risk
A sudden yen rally could trigger a global carry trade unwind. Remember August 2024, when the Nikkei fell about 12% in a single day.
💡 Suggestion
Don't chase USD/JPY longs in the 157–160 zone, as intervention risk is high. Keep carry trade positions small.

🇰🇷 South Korea Update: 3 Headlines, One Message
📌 1. BOK sells 91-day bonds at 3.14%
The policy rate is 3.00%, but short-term bonds are selling above it. That means the market expects another rate hike. The reason is inflation: 3.1% in August, with core inflation at 3.4%.
📌 2. Finance Minister calls for a "balanced policy mix"
The government has a 60 trillion won tax windfall. Spending all of it could push inflation higher and cancel out the BOK's rate hikes. The signal is that fiscal spending will stay in check.
📌 3. Closer coordination on market oversight
The KOSPI fell below 7,000 today after the holiday, and foreign investors sold around $740M in shares. The message from the government and the BOK: they're ready to step in if needed.
🌍 Global picture
The Fed hiked in September, US yields are near 5%, and oil is falling. Korean exports are at record levels, led by chips.
📊 Market impact
✅ Korean Won: strong
⚠️ Short-term bonds: under pressure
⚠️ KOSPI: volatile, foreign selling continues
🏦 Banks: benefiting from higher rates
🗓️ What to watch this week
• Micron earnings (Wednesday)
• US PCE inflation
• US Jobs report (Friday)
💡 Bottom line: The BOK will keep tightening, and the government is backing it. For now, US yields and Micron's results will decide where stocks go.
