WILDFLOWER SEEDING
Thank you to everyone who turned out on Sunday to help with sowing wildflower seeds. Hopefully we will see and enjoy the results of your efforts next year! 🌸
STILL THINGS TO SEE ON THE MEADOW
This photo of a ladybird and teasel seed heads taken by Liz Wilkinson shows that even though the Meadow has been mown and flowering is over for the year, there are still things of interest to be found!
NGP is carrying out another mammal survey 22-24 and 29-31 Oct. If you come across the traps or marker flags please do not move them - there may be live animals inside.
To take part please email Bob Challoner at [email protected] or text 07801 439075 for more info
Have you seen the latest posts on our Facebook page? There are some VERY rare moth sightings, a badger making a house call and toadlets making an appearance during our mammal surveys!

This week saw the start of NGP's mammal surveys & this little woodmouse couldn't have been more chilled about it!
There will be more surveys later this month & in October. If you can help (training provided) we would love to hear from you:

KIDS BORED ALREADY?
Why not have them make a "footprint tunnel" to find out what animals are visiting your garden at night?
YouTube / Google have resources showing you how - it's simple & entertaining!
Please send us photos of the footprints you find!
My last views of lonely juvenile on Sat 24 July, 7-8pm. Had been inside nest box a while, then at window. Watch closely top right, he is clearly getting dive bombed at top speed! Time to move on??@wokingperegrine@james_sellen@MelMatthews19
FROM BOB CHALLONER, NGP PROJECT MANAGER:
Would Martin who spoke to me after the GPCA meeting last week re Natural Goldsworth Park please get in touch at [email protected] or 07801 439075. Many thanks Bob Challoner NGP Project Manager
Last but not least, uneaten bread or any other food left on the bank will be taken by the lake’s resident rat population, and uneaten bread left in the water will rot which can impact badly on aquatic life.
Please retweet so that we can spread this important message.
thanks!
PLEASE DONT FEED OUR WILDFOWL BREAD....
It is nutritionally poor but rapidly fills a bird’s stomach, dissuading it from foraging for natural food leading to malnutrition & disease. Instead try:
Peas, chopped veg scraps, garden bird food, rolled / porridge oats, COOKED rice!
The resident fox has been frequently seen during the day taking bread which has been left for the geese, swans & ducks. It is an easily food source for her to exploit, but does not form part of a fox’s natural diet and can cause health problems if eaten to excess.
LAST CALL!
We have a few spaces left on our mammal surveys, would you like to take part?
Only a few hours required and all training provided. Children over 10 welcome with an adult.
It will be fascinating for all!
A FEW HOURS SPARE?
Provisional dates for our mammal surveys have been confirmed as the weeks beginning 1st & 23rd August and we are looking for volunteers to help! Only a few hours required & training will be given.
