If you're dealing with unexplained illness and feel like you're getting nowhere:
Keep asking questions.
Keep good records.
Get appropriate medical care.
Investigate reasonable possibilities.
Listen to your body without assuming every symptom has one cause.
You deserve answers—and you deserve hope.

What if you don't have 10 different health problems?
What if many of your symptoms are connected?
CIRS—Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome—is described by some clinicians as a persistent inflammatory response that can occur after certain environmental exposures, including water-damaged buildings.
And here's why it can be so confusing:
The symptoms can LOOK like completely unrelated illnesses.
Brain fog & memory problems → neurological disorder?
Joint pain & inflammation → autoimmune disease?
Butterfly-like facial rash → lupus?
Extreme fatigue → chronic fatigue syndrome?
Digestive dysfunction → GI disease?
Anxiety, insomnia & mood changes → psychological?
Hormone disruption → endocrine problem?
Headaches & dizziness → neurological?
Suddenly you're seeing five specialists for what feels like five different diseases.
Gastroenterology looks at your stomach.
Dermatology looks at your skin.
Neurology looks at your brain.
Endocrinology looks at your hormones.
Rheumatology looks for autoimmune disease.
And you are left wondering:
WHAT IF THESE THINGS ARE CONNECTED?
That was one of the biggest lessons of my own mold journey.
My symptoms didn't stay neatly inside one medical specialty. My body felt like multiple systems were malfunctioning at the same time.
CIRS remains an area of medical debate, and symptoms like these can be caused by many serious conditions—so they should never automatically be blamed on mold.
But if you've been sick for a long time, your symptoms don't make sense together, and you've had significant exposure to a water-damaged environment, that history may be worth discussing with a qualified clinician.
Sometimes the biggest clue isn't one symptom.
It's the PATTERN.

Recovering from chronic illness isn't just about removing something "bad."
It's also about rebuilding.
Nutrition.
Sleep.
Movement.
Nutrient deficiencies.
Stress.
Mental health.
Connection.
Recovery is rarely one supplement or one treatment.

Mold testing 101:
Testing your BODY and testing your HOME are two completely different things.
Environmental testing investigates the building.
Specialized medical testing may investigate potential exposure.
Don't confuse the two.

🚨 5 places I'd check for hidden moisture in a home:
• Under sinks
• Around windows
• Behind washing machines & around piping hook up
• Around HVAC systems
• Ceilings below bathrooms
Mold needs moisture. Finding the moisture source can be more important than finding the visible mold.

Mold claims helped spark a rise in the number of lawsuits against home builders. Homeowners say their builders have made mistakes as they attempt to put up homes as quickly and cheaply as possible, installing improperly sized HVACs, putting in windows incorrectly, or poorly ventilating attics. #moldillness #cirs https://t.co/Ppt7CNswTD
The beautiful apartment I thought was my dream home had experienced water damage—and suddenly years of unexplained symptoms started to make more sense.
I knew almost nothing about mold illness before it happened to me.
Now I know more than I ever wanted to.
I'm starting this account to share my journey: what happened, what I learned, the testing I did, the treatments I tried, what helped me, what didn't, and what I wish someone had told me from the beginning.

My tests would be abnormal, then normal, then abnormal again. I was told I was stressed. I was told I was overthinking my symptoms. At times, I started questioning myself.
Then specialized testing pointed to mold exposure.
It started with my stomach. Food stopped digesting normally. Then came the inflammation, rashes, hair loss, brain fog, exhaustion, memory problems, and symptoms that seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
I went from doctor to doctor looking for answers.
