If your religion has not saved you from hating others, whoever the others may be, it hasn’t saved you at all. If God just happens to hate all the same people you hate, that’s not God, it’s you projecting yourself onto God. 1 John 4:20
To say “God is love” is to say God is a constant holding on and letting go, pulling in and pushing out, longing for intimacy and allowing for liberty.
And the entire architectural grid of creation is built for that glorious tension with all its potential for reproduction in its image.
All sound theology—accurate rendering of the character of God—simply builds out a series of doctrinal models that constitute explanations of God's love in His relational dealings with all free moral agents.
Who is God in relation to His creation in general and in relation to those who violate the integrity of other-centered existence in particular? That’s the question all good theology is endeavoring to answer.
“God is love. Those who live in love, live in God, and God lives in them” (1 John 4:16). That’s the whole truth in a nutshell. Everything else in theology is exposition, explanation, elaboration of that one reality.
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” – Genesis 2:2-3 NIV
If the Creator of everything took intentional time to rest, shouldn’t we, the creation, rest too?

I am overwhelmed with joy
in the LORD my God!
For He has dressed me
with the clothing of salvation
and draped me
in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom
dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.
–Isaiah 61:10, NLT
God is the Source of eternal joy. And in order to have eternal joy, one must have eternal life! See how that works?
Doesn’t that just make your day? Thank you, LORD!
The gospel of Christ is not about falling in line.
It’s about falling in love.
Externally imposed rules generate either rebellion or hypocrisy, either open hostility toward God or religious pretending about God.
What cannot be generated by externally imposed rules, is love, and that truer obedience generated by love.
“We have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified” (Galatians 2:16).
Have you read the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? Over and over again, in His parables and with blunt declarations, Jesus singles out religious people as the problem, because, by their attitudes and actions, they are blocking people's access to God.
As the New Year unfolds, there really is just one thing to be obsessed about: loving God and people! Everything else is, quite literally, nothing by comparison. Hold no grudges, keep no scores, manipulate nobody's emotions, tell no lies. Look into people's eyes and pay attention when they are talking to you. Be kind and courteous to strangers. Never ever violate a child. Be generous, not stingy. Do not say everything that pops into your noggin. Force nobody into anything. Give, give, give, and forgive. Tell people pleasant things about them that you've noticed. Give gifts. Blow kisses, but not to random people. Totally quit complaining about things. Reach out to someone you haven't connected with in a while and remind them how much you like them. Buy somebody some flowers. Notice somebody in need and give them some cash. Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. This is the whole point of existence. #HappyNewYear
“A distant star larger than 500 of our Suns combined is an incredible creation, but it's not made in the image of God. And yet humanity - these fragile collections of skin and bones - have been made in the image of the Maker himself.” -@jonforeman
❄️Will there be snow for the holidays?🎄
We are a week from Christmas, and the short answer is no. Our region will likely have a warm, sunny, and dry holiday week. Sorry to dash anyone's hope of a White Christmas! It is extremely rare to snow for the holidays. #nmwx#txwx
