The thing to understand about Katrina and the decades long struggle since is that we lost. The gentrifiers, colonizers, privatizers, and capitalists won. And we lost. They demolished our city and built a shit hotel on its ruins. The failed state we live in now belongs to them
A lot of people reference the oil bust which is true but doesn’t tell the whole story. We also have to account for white flight. Hundreds of thousands of whites left the city fleeing to Metairie, Slidell, Kenner and the WB of JP as well as the parish.
When the 1970 census came out, the Metro New Orleans area passed 1 million people for the first time. New Orleans, Orleans Parish alone, had about 630,000 people.
By the time the 1980 census was released, the New Orleans Metro had grown by 300,000 people! In the decade of the 70s! Total Metro population was around 1.3 million. Tremendous growth.
Then, the early 80s oil bust and for the last 40+ years, total stagnation. New Orleans Metro population today, about 1.2 million. Less than 46 years ago. Es loco
They just can’t bring themselves to do it. The Louisiana people want teachers and public education to be fully funded (but not with const-protected funds for our children) but the GOP will always choose corporate tax breaks, private prison, and private school subsidies first.
Could there be love without hurt? I mean you never grow a flower without dirt, I was also hoping that we don’t decide each others worth by the tattoos under my shirt or the shortness of your skirt, perhaps we just lead with our heart first
As time goes by I gravitate towards romance just not being for me. Or maybe just not right now. Either way, I frequently think that I may end up being a bachelor forever. Shit just never works lol and that’s fine but damn
Far as the detached part most of it is actually me just noticing many things I do aren’t reciprocated. Sick of that shit. Stopped calling first now the phone don’t ring at all. I can take my phone off DND if I met this up lol
