Chalcophyllite is easily identified from its distinctive green crystals that form in hexagonal plates.
It’s a rare copper arsenate mineral- so rare in fact, we’ve yet to find it in Scotland!
This specimen is from St Day, Cornwall.

Corkscrew or ancient fish?

This is the type specimen (used to define the species) of Pterichthyodes milleri, found in Cromarty. It was discovered and described in 1841 by Edinburgh’s Hugh Miller, a celebrated self-taught palaeontologist/geologist. #FossilFriday #PiecesOfScotland
