I saw a silly tweet about Peter Leithart. My disagreements with him are legion, but I've always been fascinated while reading him.
I remember a prof in college referring to his work. I said, "I heard he hates Baptists." The prof said "He does, but read him anyway."
Indeed.
Alexander Maclaren on the text for this Lord's Day, "...it opens up depths beyond our fathoming, and gathers into one concentrated brightness the lights on which our dim eyes can hardly look..."
Pausing 1 Timothy on the 25th to remind our church about the Gifts found in the Gospel from Galatians 4:
The Gift of God's Son
The Gift of God's Redemption
The Gift of God's Adoption
The Gift of God's Spirit
I've never devoted time to only reading one author, but I think it could be worthwhile practice to assure proper understanding. Piper encouraged us to live with one theologian. He chose Jonathan Edwards for a lifetime. At least for 2023, I think I'll live with Webster.
Preaching on caring for widows from 1 Timothy 5:3-16 before pausing for a Christmas sermon on the 25th. At first, a sermon on caring for widows right before Christmas may seem out of place, but is it?
Did I just purchase 20 copies of @John_B_Webster’s “Christ our Salvation” at $0.99 a pop to give away to friends?
Yes…yes I did. And you should, too.
