@policytensor If they escalate before the mid-terms that can only help Trump's approval rating: he's already at historic lows. If they let him escalate after mid-terms he is more likely to be hamstrung by domestic politics no?
What is the point of Europe? Agreeing to accommodate the US president for the sake of his upcoming mid-term elections is mind boggling when that same president has been willing to openly interfere in European politics against incumbent governments.
Breaking news: G7 countries have agreed to release 100mn barrels of diesel and crude oil from their strategic reserves. The decision comes as Donald Trump attempts to bring down high diesel prices for US drivers ahead of November’s midterm elections. https://t.co/WuWruQUM7y
For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026.
At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day.
It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime.

@TheStalwart When I've made 'adversarial' sub agents they usually just ask lots of questions rather than actually get into conflicts with the others. Do you tell chatgpt to assign the agents particular traits?
When AI companies are testing their frontier models they should be subject to basically the same style of regulatory model as virology labs. Including government power to inspect, seize records and stop work. Imagine letting a bio-containment 4 virus lab police its own compliance
A country that allows a foreign power permanent military bases and and permanent military overflight and access rights while also giving that same power a veto over foreign investment is not really sovereign in that territory #Greenland
When Donald Trump greets Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday evening, it will be the first time since 1962 that a US president has personally welcomed a foreign leader (aside from popes) at the air force base. In 1962, JFK greeted British PM Macmillan.
We are back at rate hikes to fight a supply shock. Will this stop the war against Iran? Will it reopen the Strait of Hormuz? Will higher financing costs help build out renewables?
No.
But it risks pushing livelihoods & democracies over the edge.
A year after shifting production and sourcing out of China to avoid higher U.S. tariffs, some companies are learning that replicating the country's factory ecosystem is not so easy and are bringing manufacturing back. https://t.co/b9YAyBlxRN
@Robert_E_Kelly@HunterStires So in your view the last 8 years of integrated deterrence is working? What actions has it stopped China from taking that it otherwise would have taken?
So many of the world's current problems reflect crises that cant find a clear resolution. The system needs critical junctures, but the status quo is still able to defer and delay. This is why I think the current moment is more like the late 1800s rather than 1930s or 1914 etc.
US pressures NATO allies to destroy International Criminal Court.
Washington said it “would be watching closely” to see which allies help in its campaign against the court during a closed-door meeting.
