Here I go completely rearranging my story twenty chapters in. All it took was talking to myself about what I wanted to do with the story, and myself came up with a great idea! Does that happen to anyone else?
@freeboostpromo I love the story I'm writing. When I was first asked who the target audience was I said "me"
I have friends that absolutely love the story and characters, and I want to share with them the story I discovered
@realmattfalcon@GetFalcontext I have an entire Google doc listing names, descriptions, personal goals, and whether they are dead or alive lol
So you input 25 characters names and it informs you if you may have left them behind somewhere?
In the world I created, we may be fighting the things of nightmares. We may be struggling to survive on an alien planet covered in ice. We may be facing the corruptable hearts of man.
But we will still have whiskey and ice-cream!
@realmattfalcon@GetFalcontext It keeps track of characters that disappear into the story? Thats pretty neat. I name every single person my characters interact with to make the world feel alive. Having almost 200 named people with their own motives is interesting to juggle lol
@realmattfalcon@GetFalcontext My wife has a degree in English, so that has also been a huge help!
Yeah I saw that. I've been meaning to take a look and see what it's all about.
@realmattfalcon It's mostly just reading it aloud back to myself. I'm a huge music lover, and there are beautiful similarities between listening to music and listening to the way a story flows. Both will let you know when you hit the wrong note. I would expound more if not for character limits
@Saengard That sounds pretty fun! It reminds me of The Departed, if you've ever seen it. I think the key is going to be writing very distinct voices in your dialogue. Maybe even come up with little ticks and quirks for the different POVs to help the reader differentiate.
@MarketPalmer_ Project Hail Mary is incredible! I got it in leather back.
I would recommend, The Tenth Celestial: Innocence. Yes, it's my book, but it has great action, unique monsters, sound combat tactics, and deep characterization.
@ElChandler History is such a great subject! The more you know, the less surprised you are when crazy stuff happens in the world. History is just a swinging pendulum ๐
