Ford says they are working on a paid sick day solution. This comes after months of public health advocates and others telling the government it must do this.
Silver lining: they walked back the playground ban via a tweet, instead of hinting at changes for several days, letting rumours take hold, and then making everyone wait around for a thrice-delayed press conference.
Ford is walking back these measures because nobody — citizens, cities, police — would abide by them.
Yet, without new science-based measures, these "enhanced restrictions" continue to do *nothing* for where large outbreaks are actually occurring.
You should be furious.
Finishing ICU night call - 6 new consults, all COVID.
The last one was in early 30s. Got COVID from parent who works at a warehouse. They got sick because two coworkers showed up to work with a fever and cough.
His x-ray, worsened over 48 hrs. Now in ICU. 30s.
PAID SICK LEAVE!
This has been an extremely upsetting and eventful day at @MGHToronto. We are about to go through what Italy & New York went through a year ago. I can’t believe we are at this place in Ontario today. Neither of those places had warning. We had one full year to prevent this.
the police have always maintained that their stops are never "random". when they say "we won't do random stops," they're saying every time they stop someone, it will be for a good reason
the word "random" is not in the government order. this isn't the victory people think it is
The public: “We want paid sick days, support for small businesses, and fast vaccines for hot spots and essential workers”
The government: “How about some racism?”
A good rule of thumb for every time you vote is to think about what it would be like if a candidate won, and if it then turned out that there was a pandemic.
And honestly before you even @ me Derek keep in mind that from my perspective there is literally no justification you can muster that will convince me spending $100,000 to hire private security to police downtown was a good or progressive idea. Literally not one thing.
Well this is awkward, remember voting to hire a private security company to police the homeless downtown Oshawa, then refusing to condemn the abhorrent racist, xenophobic and misogynist past of its owner? @DerekGiberson
If you are using grocery pick up be nice( because some haven't been), wear your mask in your car. Every single young worker hasn't been vaccinated. They work long shifts and they are tired and very worried about their and their families safety. #WearAMask
#Ontario decision-makers and public health officials must stop shaming and blaming the population for their pandemic behaviours.
We have failed to support vulnerable populations who cannot follow public health measures, and have often communicated inconsistently and confusedly.
. @CBCLorenda asks “Is this the disaster you predicted two months ago?” Steini Brown: “Yes, this is what we expected...if we relaxed public health measures.” #onpoli
