We would also like to offer a heartfelt thank you to @ShaunBaileyUK for hosting us at the House of Lords and for his inspiring opening speech.
It meant a great deal to mark this milestone in such a significant place and reflect on the work still ahead.
This is great news and shows that targeted funding can have an impact. The job is not done. We must keep on keeping on to save lives. - Met Police and Sadiq Khan hail lowest homicide rates since 2014 - BBC News
@NathanSingleton, Chief Executive of LifeLine Projects, spoke about the change in youth work since 2000, with youth workers becoming more of a pastoral service and being able to reach young people missed by other services
Thanks for visiting us last week @wesstreeting. So pleased this government is promoting good health through the '10 year health plan' rather than just treating poor health. This is closely aligned with @lcpuk preventative approaches.
Today, we were extremely pleased to welcome Fiona Taylor, Chief Executive of @lbbdcouncil. She had the opportunity to speak with @NathanSingleton as well as hear from members of our team running programmes for young people, families, and faith groups in Barking and Dagenham.
3) Whilst holding the line on human connection youth work will compliment it's delivery through online detached work using the same principles developed in traditional detached work. As with traditional detached, youth workers will go where other agencies can't/won't.
At the @YouthAPPG yesterday I was asked what youth work in 2035 would look like? These are my top points;
1) Amidst the wave of technology youth work will hold the line on human connection to break loneliness.
2) With austerity as the new normal and statutory services overwhelmed, youth work will increasingly function as early intervention by default and will be recognised accordingly.
In 2019, London did something transformative: we set up a specialist Violence Reduction Unit - the first in the country - to intervene and take a preventative approach.
The impact has been huge ⬇️
@YouthAPPG Thanks for inviting me on the panel. The National Youth Strategy is a great move forward. Whilst we listen to young people, we must also empower them to have an influence on society and lead, not just be served. Y/P can be the change they're looking for.
Minister for Youth Stephanie Peacock MP set out the themes of the youth strategy, with key points being wanting to give young people access to trusted adults, places to go, and things to do. She also referenced the ability of young people to get involved in the strategy rollout
As Deputy Prime Minister, I’m focused on delivering for the British people and I tend to ignore the noise.
But in the past week I’ve been sent stories about:
– A Reform mayoral candidate telling me to “go home” to the Caribbean where he said my “loyalties lie”.
– A Reform councillor’s TikTok account endorsing a comment calling me a “greedy none (sic) thoroughbred”.
– A Reform council leader referring to me saying “no foreign national or first-generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament” - apparently unaware I’m a British citizen born in North London.
I will never be cowed by racism. But I will call it what it is.
@Nigel_Farage, you need to clean up your party and stamp out this 1950s-style hate.
Sometimes you just need to talk. The Listening Lounge is a community-based mental health service offering a safe, welcoming space to be heard 💬 #MentalHealthSupport
Last week I was here talking about the role of mentoring young people in creating community. Pleased to hear that @number10gov understands the importance of mentoring.
Seeking truth, sharing trust, and building community - our latest bulletin is out now featuring an update on exciting new funding, a story from our @LPFamilies work in #WalthamForest, and @NathanSingleton looking at modern media and what we can trust.

The Government could take an interesting angle here - 1) the traditional route of tackling youth unemployment through employability programmes, or 2) recognise the broader issue of well-being and address the issue though programmes that demonstrably improve mental health.
