@Its_Coach_Steve@burziyech If the MAC finances are that impacted by NIU leaving, then it's really not a good selling point to ask them to stay in a conference they've seemingly outgrown.
Our nearest rival was almost a 5 hour drive away. You can't pretend like the MAC's regionality was any benefit.
@MisterBigg27234@StephenSBrown28@kylematthewsceo It would take smart scheduling consistently.
The Fire are also moving this opening prime dates for longer periods allowing some acts to come that normally wouldn't.
Some bands do require extensive set-up that the Bears would be prohibitive of.
Opens the door for residencies.
@FirstTake@stephenasmith Went from eulogizing a man he didn't know, to baseless speculation about his weight.
Couldn't stop himself from being an absolute ass.
Fuck @espn and @disney for platforming this disgusting shit.
The NBA family mourns the passing of Stacey King, a three-time NBA champion and longtime Chicago Bulls television analyst. Stacey made his mark on the game as a player, coach and commentator. For more than 20 years on Bulls broadcasts, his passion, knowledge and unmistakable energy resonated with generations of fans. We extend our deepest condolences to Stacey’s family and friends and the Bulls organization.
@burziyech Soldier Field only functions well for soccer games that draw under 30,000 provided there are no major events coinciding downtown.
Any event drawing 50k+ becomes a multiple hour ordeal to drive 5+ miles in any direction.
@bobbydo85@OctobersOwnTae Where do Bears fans predominantly live? Are they getting hotels to watch the game?
If people are flying in, what state airport are they arriving in?
Who will own the new districts going in to support the development? Local businesses?
Shout-out @Ticketmaster for "permanently" banning my account from buying tickets.
Apparently missed an email amidst the fucking hundreds I get. And poof my account is useless.
No follow-up. Nothing. No option to resend, despite never having an actual issue ever.
@priceacarter@catherinetinker@rock_climber02 We love your system of a governing body telling us exactly how much labor is worth without disclosing how much they're making or losing. Your utopia sounds great!
FYI the one team with public books made an operating profit of 108 million last year. I think they'll find owners.
@priceacarter@catherinetinker@rock_climber02 You can do a floor without a cap! Guys can get paid and you can still require teams to pay big league salaries.
If owners struggle with that, it's probably a sign that they're not fit to own in the modern day.
@priceacarter@catherinetinker@rock_climber02 A cap would place artificial constraints on how much money could be spent.
It would in turn limit the potential earnings of top players.
In his prime LeBron was worth far more to an organization than a max contract. The cap artificially limited his league earnings.
@priceacarter@catherinetinker@rock_climber02 If a player is deemed worth it by the teams, why shouldn't the player earn their value?
If it's such a bad contract, they will eventually learn to stop giving bad money.
Caps would just steer players to tax havens to make the most money in an artificially weakened system.
@priceacarter@catherinetinker@rock_climber02 Nothing more American than artificially capping wages because other billionaires pretend they can't afford to pay it.
If the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox say a player is worth the amount, why should cheap owners be given grace?
Spend on your team or sell it.
@homelesspolster@kenobiwan81@MicheleSteele Chicago has already announced plans to redevelop SF into a concert-specific venue.
That assumes Chicago is functional and gets it done (lol), but even if it's 1/3 of the concerts going to SF, it would hamper some of the use cases for AH.
Intl. Soccer would be a big one for AH
@homelesspolster@kenobiwan81@MicheleSteele The Rams also built in a prime location that will draw year round use from events. 20 dates for Bears games isn't a huge driver.
Arlington Heights is distant from downtown and may draw fewer concerts and other major sporting events than other contemporary venues.
@homelesspolster@kenobiwan81@MicheleSteele Apples and Oranges in the sense that one side came ready to make a deal happen.
The other came looking to negotiate and draw things out in the hopes of more public funding and now the cost is ballooning on them.
@kenobiwan81@homelesspolster@MicheleSteele People don't get it. The Bears played their hand early and are getting their bluff called.
Illinois is looking after the taxpayer.
If the Bears didn't come asking for tax breaks + money shovels would be in the ground.
The Fire are a prime example of getting shit done.
Buying Arlington Park without doing the due diligence to see if it was politically viable to secure public funds to build there is the reason we are here folks. They might actually be better off selling back the land, writing down the loss and starting from square 1 - if they want to stay in state.
