Over two years ago, we reinstated the @StateDept Daily Press Briefing. In my first briefing, I said that not only do we need an engaged, active press corps to hold us accountable — we welcome it. It was true then, and it’s true today, my last day as Spokesperson.

@tweetsbenedict this is a perennial discussion in foreign policy. we use the military as our go to tool for solving foreign policy problems because we’re really good at mobilizing DoD’s seemingly infinite capabilities, even though solutions based on diplomacy or development would be better.
The Department mourns the passing of Nilda Pedrosa this week. Her tenure at @StateDept was one chapter in a distinguished career of public service. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and other loved ones.
