Everyone debating whether capitalism or socialism works better (the proper answer is obviously capitalism) when the real reason wealth inequality is widening and the American Dream feels out of reach to so many, is because we print trillions of dollars to service debt. That's what sparks inflation (too many dollars chasing too few goods), which enriches the economic incumbents (those with assets and equities) and impoverishes the working class.

We're still climbing out of Covid money printing insanity, but no one wants to spend less, ever. Balanced budgets is really the only answer.

Eventually, we'll have to take our medicine.

Republican senators initiate a leadership challenge: Any group of GOP senators can call for a new caucus meeting/vote to elect new leadership. This has happened before in both parties (e.g., past challenges to Mitch McConnell).
2. Vote in the Republican Conference: A majority of Republican senators present would need to vote to replace Thune and elect someone else. The exact threshold depends on attendance and rules, but it requires sufficient support within the caucus (currently around 53 Republican senators).
3. Timing: This can happen at any time during a Congress, though it is more common at the start of a new Congress or after elections. The next regular leadership elections would align with the new Congress after the 2026 midterms (Class 2 Senate seats are up).
