There are not many events in world history where you can say “I remember exactly where I was when I found out.” Unfortunately, 9/11 is one of those events for millions of Americans. 

You may have been on your way to work, at school, in the hospital holding your newborn scared for what the future held, or on the tragic end of a phone call learning about the loss of a loved on that fateful day. 

One thing is for certain - those that lived it, will never forget it and those that were born after it, will never live without its consequences. That day changed our country and the world forever. 

Often times we forget what it means to be an American. We take our freedoms for granted, we lose site of our common bond as countrymen, and we live life blissfully unaware of the evil that seeks to destroy us at any and all costs. 

My pledge for all of you is to remember that day. Remember how you felt. Tell your kids about it and show them the footage if they are of age. Explain what it is they TRIED to take from US and why they never could.

Remind them that we live in a country where strangers run INTO burning buildings to save other strangers. Where strangers put themselves IN harms way, sacrificing their lives in distant lands to preserve our freedoms. Assure them that those that died that day and in its wake, fully understood what it meant to be an American. 

So today. . . hug your family, say hello to your neighbor, pray for a friend, buy coffee for a colleague, ignore the bumper stickers, remember what it means to be an American, and don’t take it for granted.

Most of all, join us in praying for everyone impacted by today’s tragic events 23 years ago and its aftermath.
