Over halfway through the MAPS season at Stone Prairie and it’s been a good one! Some highlights include this Yellow-billed Cuckoo & Worm-eating Warbler. @hendrixcollege skills are advancing & we’re enjoying working with our amazing partners @ARGameandFish & ANHC
Congrats to the @uwi_network and a huge shout out to @masonfidino for leading the charge and putting our findings so nicely into this thread 😊 Also grateful for the support of @ARGameandFish and @hendrixcollege in making this research happen for the Little Rock node of UWIN.
These temps won’t keep this @uwi_network team from setting up game cameras in Little Rock! Showed the new @hendrixcollege field team for 23-24 how to set cameras today after meeting with our partners at @ARGameandFish. They’re a solid bunch!
It has been a record breaking year so far at MAPS at Stone Prairie. We’ve encountered 120 birds & some adorbs warblers, including this Black-and-white, a sp we haven’t caught since ‘21. On day 1, we caught these 3 late migrants which were 1sts for the station. Can you name them?
@HightowerJn Two of my Hendrix students will be presenting posters there. Please find them and go have lunch or coffee or something! I’m sending them all alone. 😬 They’re wonderful people!
So looking forward to seeing you @TigNotaro at @walton_arts in June, but would certainly understand if you felt compelled to change your plans given recent developments there.
Field work started this week! We established our net lanes and caught a couple of beauties in the process of training. Eastern river cooters, Magnolia Warbler, and Gray-cheeked Thrush.
@HightowerJn I help run an urban wildlife project with 30 cameras across Little Rock. ~10% of photos are birds and we ID ~90% of bird photos to species. We identified 41 bird spp. bw Jul 20 and Jul 21.
Had a nice time birding with these rad @HendrixBiology grads over break! Dipped on the Short-billed Gull but not on a good time! @Krajcir4birds @Leah_C_C
Had a great time looking for #fossils with the Hendrix Naturalists Club, my kids, and @ShamindriT in Leslie, Ark. lots of crinoids and bryozoans in the #rocks. @HendrixBiology
The Environmental Biology class sampled macroinvertebrates at Cadron Creek for the #freshwaterbiodiversity lab and examined the critters before releasing them back to the water. It was a beautiful day and @ShamindriT and the class enjoyed being out in the field! #funinthefield
