Had a blast converting this traditionally memorization heavy unit to a problem based, self paced, inquiry driven unit with authentic assessment!!! #inquirizeit#scienceisaverb#modernclassroomproject https://t.co/1zzvggHTLS
One of our favorite parts of #inquiry is that labs are more authentic and varied! The same prompt yields unique: questions, procedures, graphs, etc! All = deeper arguments & a perfect assessment to end our 1st honors bio #modernclassroomproject unit! 🤓🥳 https://t.co/IDFJbj4Bvc
Students master skills when they are deeply engaged in work and the educator is a facilitator. That means teachers need to feel empowered to minimize whole-group direct instruction so they can maximize time spent with students in small group and 1-1 discussions.
students up at the board drawing models and quizzing each other (w/o prompting! They were just prepping for mastery 🤩); 1-on-1 time with kids to truly see understanding w/o the rest of the class going bananas🤪 we are DOING SCIENCE 👩🔬It’s NOISY in class and we LOVE IT! (3/3)
We started a new unit with inquiry still at the heart. We added some lessons to bc of student questions from our dqb and we implemented @modernclassproj inspired changes (1/3)

This made the unit self paced, differentiated and mastery based! We’re about half way through and here’s what we’re loving: TONS of deep student generated discussions @🤓; students going back and reading my feedback 😁 (2/3)
