Career update🚨: I am excited to announce that I will join Florida International University's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department as an Associate Professor starting this spring. I will miss my friends and colleagues at ODU and wish them the best.

@dfosterhill I can see beach cusps at the base. The pattern of features extending seaward reminds me of rip currents, so these may be depositional (or erosional) features created by rip currents guided by the cusps. Interesting.
The site study was a sheltered bay with low wave energy, which is representative of a typical environment suitable for #livingshorelines like the two features studied here (n/n). #costalprotection#NNBF#NBS.

This suggests that structure crest elevation is a key factor, perhaps more important than structure type. Calculating out the effects of shoaling and depth-induced breaking shows that the stone sill alone attenuated waves by 27% (4/n)

🚨(Relatively) new paper out, led by my former postdoc Ramin Familkhalili: We coupled a RANS model with a model for dynamics of vegetation stems to simulate two-way interactions between waves and highly flexible vegetation. https://t.co/oSH9eDw2BQ
The model compared well with published lab data on wave attenuation and orientation of vegetation stems under wave action. We also showed a satisfactory comparison between computational forces applied by the flow on flexible stems with lab data.
@PhDVoice@PostdocVoice My first review was like. I'm sure my supervisor's intention was my training and I saw it as a valuable experience. Had my supervisor declined the review and suggested me, the journal might not have picked me. It's always best to be open about how you feel with your mentor.
