Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed HB 126 into law, which allows colleges in the state to directly pay athletes in line with the House v. NCAA settlement.
It also means high school athletes who are 17 and older can sign NIL deals.

A new class action lawsuit challenges the California Interscholastic Federation’s NIL & transfer restrictions.
For example, the rule prohibiting schools from paying athletes NIL $.
The Texas bill to allow schools to pay college athletes is ready for the governor’s signature.
It will also change TX law to allow high school athletes that are 17 & older to enter NIL deals.
Current law prohibits athletes from entering deals until enrolled in college.
@KSFeinberg Agree with all three sentiments: it’s archaic, oppressive, and likely illegal to prohibit high school athletes from receiving NIL compensation if they want to maintain high school athletics eligibility.
