Today must be a proud day for BJP workers in West Bengal, and especially for the RSS karyakartas who spent years fighting the “corrupt” TMC and worked relentlessly to deliver the BJP’s historic victory in the state.

Their reward? Three Rajya Sabha nominations for former TMC MPs who resigned only a few weeks ago.

Clearly, this is what sacrifice looks like. Years of grassroots work so that those they campaigned against could be declared the most deserving faces to represent the party in Parliament.

Perhaps corruption has an unusually short expiry date in politics. A resignation, a new party scarf, and suddenly yesterday’s villains become today’s ideal Rajya Sabha nominees. What a remarkable journey of political transformation.

Thought he would be the LKY of India, he had a blank check to do all he wanted + majority in both houses

Also the most benign macros, Low energy prices, no major wars etc

Wasted every thing, he doesn't care now, just wants to ride on reservations and Laadli schemes

Only thing my family will still vote for him forever is Opposition is 10x worse and worst part, he KNOWS this, he knows middle classes is behind him and he will use that Intel till he squeezes us dry

- after implementing GST on everything,
- introducing 10% LTCG on capital gains,
- completely removing LTCG and indexation on debt funds,
- imposing 20% TCS on foreign remittance; and

This is a stunning piece of accidental confession to explain the news media playbook last few years. It’s a simple three step process (already mastered by WhatsApp uncles over the years):

1. Label yourself as ‘apolitical’/‘observer’.
2. Start framing every issue into a govt vs opposition conflict.
3. Black out the uncomfortable issues under the pretext of being apolitical.

Stories of public concern (mob lynchings, ethnic violence, sexual assault allegations against people in power, or even much widespread old-school issues of rising unemployment etc) have been systemically ignored under the horribly shameful pretext of ‘not our job to discuss politics’. Every inconvenience faced by the common citizen has been dubbed as the ‘opposition’ and hence ‘not our job to side with them’.

And to top all that, constant pushing of communal, divisive, and provocative narratives has been normalised as a job of media. So somehow - talking about a tunnel collapse is political side-taking but branding an entire religion as anti-national every night through shrieking anchors is being a ‘neutral observer’.
