How common is recurrent cholangitis after Whipple/HJ without HJ-stenosis (NSC)? And how to treat? Today in @hpbjournal

🔑 50 of 1179 (4.2%) pts with HJ developed non-stenotic cholangitis NSC.
🔑 'step-up approach' with short-course antibiotics (n = 50, 100 %), prolonged antibiotics (n = 26, 52%), and revisional surgery (n = 7, 14 %).
🔑 Resolution of NSC in 15 pts (30%) and reduction of NSC frequency in an additional 21 pts (42%).
🔑 Concomitant UDCA use and stopping PPI = only predictor for resolution (OR 4.229, p = 0.035).
🔑 Secondary sclerosing cholangitis occurred in 12 pts (24%), associated with the nr of NSC episodes (OR 1.2, p = 0.050).

Liver regeneration after portal and hepatic vein embolization improves overall survival compared with portal vein embolization alone: mid-term survival analysis of the multicentre DRAGON 0 cohort

The #multicentre international retrospective DRAGON 0 study showed that simultaneous portal (PVE) and hepatic vein (HVE) embolization in patients with cancer in the liver increases the future liver remnant hypertrophy, kinetic growth rate, and resection rate compared with PVE alone.
Mid-term oncological follow-up showed that median 3-year overall survival was significantly increased in the PVE/HVE group.
