Not all penalties need to be treated equally.

“Simulation is one of the actions the Laws of the Game are designed to discourage because it undermines fairness and places unnecessary pressure on match officials. Referees are expected to recognise these situations and act accordingly.”

“The fact that this occurred in a World Cup knockout match should not change how the laws are applied. Referees must have the confidence to make the correct decision regardless of the occasion or the players involved.”

If Henry actually said this I find it extremely difficult to disagree with him. I have too much respect for him. Red cards should be issued in only the most extreme of circumstances because in too many cases it decides the game. We then just end watching a game where one team just defends. Becomes a boring spectacle. It just seems that there should be a lesser penalty for situations that are not a malicious intent to injure. How about a 10 or 15 minute penalty playing with ten men?

The Stanley Cup is sacred to many of us. Etched on it are the heroes of my youth. Richard, Howe, Orr, Hull, Keon, Lemieux, Gretzky. To this day many make the pilgrimage to the HHOF in Toronto to have a photo taken with it. I will soon be there with my grandkids. Sorry but only those who have earned it should be memorialized forever. The glorious Cup has been devalued.

It’s about the players and staff.

I believe the NHL needs a coherent policy on which names deserve to be on the most hallowed trophy in sports. To think that in a few years the band containing Dave Keon and the 67 Leafs will be removed yet we have children of owners taking up space. It just doesn’t feel right

There are so many things wrong with the NHL. Andm many of them stem from the fact that the league is run by an old boys' network that tells outsiders to be quiet because it knows what is best. This creates unfettered and unchecked power that results in things like this happening.

The outrage shouldn’t be directed at Dundon. He isn’t the first. But the Cup is sacred.
A coherent set of rules should be established that limits whose name can be engraved on it. Children of owners is taking it too far.

My favorite thing is the outrage over Dundon’s family being on the Cup when Florida’s owner literally did this last season and there was quite literally zero outrage.

Yes his kids shouldn’t be on the Cup. They didn’t earn their place in hockey history with the legends of the game. No way they should be sharing space with Richard, Howe, Keon Orr, Gretzky, among others. The Stanley Cup is sacred. It is hallowed. It belongs to the players and those making direct contributions. A coherent set of rules needs to be put in place

Big congrats to the Dundon family, whose members now appear on the Stanley Cup more often than the Hulls, Staals, and Hextalls, as well as (due to band removal) the Richards and Howes.

Still one shy of the Sutters, though. Something to shoot for next year I guess.
