The first flames of protest erupted today in Saqqez, the hometown of Jina Amini, as demonstrators took to the streets chanting “Death to the dictator.”
Statement of the Co-Chairs of PJAK: The Martyrs of Malekshahi
The wave of popular protests across Iran and Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan) is expanding day by day. Ilam and Kirmaşan (Kermanshah), the vanguards of Kurdistan, are continuing the Women, Life, Freedom revolution and now, shoulder to shoulder with the Hamedan, Lorestan, and Bakhtiari regions, have once again turned the broader Zagros region into a symbol of resistance against oppression and dictatorship. We salute the determination and will of our people in these regions.
As in the past, the Islamic Republic government is responding to popular protests and uprisings with bullets and repression. In this context, the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic have carried out massacres of protesters in the cities of Kuhdasht, Azna, Delfan, Lordegan, and Harsin, and today, in a brutal act, perpetrated a massacre against the resisting people of Malekshahi in Ilam Province. We, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), strongly condemn these anti-human and barbaric assaults. We consider it absolutely necessary to expand democratic protests and to provide comprehensive support to the people’s uprisings in Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan, Hamedan, and Bakhtiari from all regions of Kurdistan. The martyrs of Malekshahi proved that today Ilam and Kermanshah are the beating heart of Kurdistan and the vanguard of freedom and democracy in Iran. They are the martyrs of the genuine revolution of the peoples of the Zagros.
In the face of these state massacres, we undoubtedly regard the right to self-defence as a fully legitimate right for our people. We believe that self-defence must be carried out in an organised manner so as not to impose high human costs on our society. It is also necessary to remain vigilant so that what is done within the framework of self-defence is not exploited by opportunistic and corrupt currents, as we are aware that some opportunist groups seek to politically exploit and instrumentalise this democratic popular uprising.
In areas with tribal and clan structures, the regime exploits social differences and sows discord through its security and repressive apparatuses to pursue its vile objectives. We urge our patriotic people to unite and stand in solidarity against these plots and sinister state policies, and to neutralise them. We also urge individuals supporting the regime to join the peoples’ front, abandon hostility towards their nation, and distance themselves from a regime with no future.
Long live the democratic uprising of Rojhelat Kurdistan and Iran!

Message by Rêwar Abdanan in Support of the People’s Legitimate Demands
Rêwar Abdanan, a member of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), issued a message expressing support for the legitimate demands of the people of Iran, stating that the ongoing protests reflect deep social and economic grievances.
Emphasizing the public’s right to peaceful protest, he called for respect for fundamental freedoms and an end to the use of violence against demonstrators.
PJAK Backs New Uprising in Iran, Calls for Democratic Unity
The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) has issued a statement expressing full support for the new uprising of the peoples of Iran, describing it as a continuation of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (Woman, Life, Freedom) Revolution. PJAK said the reasons for the protests are rooted in deep economic crisis, political repression, and the denial of fundamental rights.
The party emphasized the leading role of women and youth, rejected efforts to securitize or monopolize the movement, and called for unity among Iran’s diverse peoples to achieve democracy and a free life.
Statement by PJAK on the New Uprising of the Peoples of Iran
The new uprising of the peoples of Iran began on December 28, 2025 in protest against the continued policies of the Islamic Republic, policies that have pushed society toward economic collapse and the destruction of livelihoods. Over nearly half a century of rule, the Islamic Republic has sought to weaken and fragment Iranian society through policies of killing, repression, suffocation, mass manipulation, and the systematic impoverishment of the people. By deliberately imposing multilayered crises on Iranian society, the regime has attempted to prolong its hold on power.
Centralization and the suppression and marginalization of nations and peoples; policies of pressure and repression against diverse religions, sects, and beliefs; the denial of women’s rights; continuous attacks and humiliation directed at women and their exclusion from social spheres; the violation of all forms of freedom of expression, thought, and belief; the imprisonment of intellectuals; the obstruction of any hope or opportunity for work, life, and activism for the youth; and the forced migration of young people—all have been persistent and systematic policies of the ruling authorities.
In the economic sphere, the plundering of Iran’s wealth and resources and their diversion toward warmongering, intervention in other countries, and support for extremist armed groups have resulted in a deep economic crisis. National wealth has been spent on massive military projects, ideological propaganda, uranium enrichment, ballistic missile production, and the backing of armed groups, leading to the impoverishment of the people and depriving them of access to their own national resources. The seizure of all production and trade sectors by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the handover of the economy to rent-seekers and powerful domestic mafias affiliated with the system of Velayat-e Faqihunder the label of the “private sector,” has completely collapsed the economy and shattered the backbone of the middle classes, market sectors, and productive forces.
The reality shaped by the Islamic Republic shows that no identity, nation, religion, gender, class, or social group has been spared from crisis and devastation. When these crises are compounded by militaristic policies and persistent confrontation with the outside world—leading to Iran’s isolation, severe economic sanctions, and the activation of the snapback mechanism—it becomes clear how the policies of the Islamic Republic have plunged Iran into a profound and all-encompassing crisis. The governing model and policies of the Islamic Republic are the root cause of these crises and the source of the current deadlock and despair.
Resistance, struggle, and uprising by any people, identity, class, or social group under such conditions of crisis and impasse inevitably become the shared voice and collective struggle of all segments of Iranian society that are subjected to pressure and deprivation. To overcome these crises and move beyond them in the future Iran, there is no path other than mutual solidarity and shared responsibility. This is precisely the perspective of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution, which demonstrates how deeply intertwined identities are and how our destinies are bound to a struggle that is diverse in form yet united and cohesive in essence.
As PJAK, whose foundational philosophy is Woman, Life, Freedom and unity in diversity, we declare our full support for all democratic efforts against dictatorship and emphasize the following points:
1. The Islamic Republic’s attempt to securitize and criminalize the legitimate demands of the people in order to suppress them is entirely futile. Since the Woman, Life, Freedom Revolution, the authorities have recognized the power of the people and know that they are being decisively rejected. It must be understood that through the people’s struggle and collective will, the rulers have heard the voice of the people’s revolution, and no path remains for them except submission to popular demands.
2. Any form of monopolization, domination, or political opportunism harms the popular movement. Every uprising and movement that emerges in Iran is a continuation of the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution and embodies demands for democracy, the rejection of authoritarianism, centralism, and discrimination. Any attempt to reproduce past power structures or hijack this movement is an effort to divert and steal the genuine revolution of the people.
3. The Woman, Life, Freedom revolution is grounded in the principle that no identity, struggle, or demand is insignificant or secondary. The oppressed nations within Iran—who have endured national oppression for more than a century and who today demand their legitimate rights—must view every struggle against dictatorship as a supportive step toward achieving their own freedoms and rights. The current uprising of the people is not in contradiction with the demands of nations and peoples; rather, it aligns with them. This democratic movement must not be misrepresented as part of the ruling power, nor weakened under the false dichotomy of center versus periphery. Within this framework, the support of the Kurdish people—who possess a profound historical legacy of freedom struggle and are the cradle of the Woman, Life, Freedom Revolution—is decisive for achieving victory at this stage.
4. For the current uprising to continue in a deep-rooted and sustainable democratic direction, the leadership of women and the will of youth must be recognized as fundamental principles. Guaranteeing a free life and protecting revolutionary gains against all forms of power-seeking depend on women’s liberation struggle. Women, university students, and school students are both the guides of this path and the driving force of the revolution.
In conclusion, we believe that the peoples of Iran, in the wake of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (Woman, Life, Freedom) Revolution, have made their choice for democracy and a free life. The caravan of freedom of the peoples of Iran will reach victory through democratic unity and solidarity.
