Recently, NCSHP Troopers supported the Window World 450 at @NWBSpeedway, focusing on traffic control, public safety, and recruitment.

Operation Heavy Presence was conducted in Durham Co., based at @NCCU, to combat impaired and reckless driving while honoring Master Trooper Steven J. Perry. In two days, 861 actions were taken, including 56 DWI charges, 28 felony charges, and 13 wanted persons apprehended.

Trooper D.R. Grady was named NC Law Enforcement Officer of the Year on July 18 in Winston-Salem by the Forty and Eight. While off duty, he identified and detained a carjacking suspect until units arrived. His actions reflect the highest standards of @NCSHP.

This week, the North Carolina Police Executives Association is holding its annual conference. SBI Director Chip Hawley gave those in attendance his yearly "State of the SBI" presentation. During the speech, he outlined the number of requests the SBI has received and also gained feedback from our partners on how the SBI is performing throughout North Carolina.

During last year's conference, Director Hawley was presented with the Keith Bulla Enforcement Executive of the Year award for excellence. The award is named after former NC SBI Special Agent in Charge Keith Bulla. The award is awarded to a well-rounded law enforcement officer who has exceeded the duty requirements expected of his or her position and has demonstrated a distinct pattern of community service coupled with professional achievement.

Director Hawley presented the 2026 Keith Bulla recipient to his friend and Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Colonel Freddy Johnson. Congratulations to Colonel Johnson and the entire North Carolina Police Executives Association for an outstanding week.
