"When we were living as refugees, we went to many places telling the international community that Rwanda was our home and that we wanted to return. Some people would come and raise the matter with the government that was in power here. The response they received was that Rwanda was too small and that there was no place for us to go. Imagine being told there is no place for you in the very country you came from. You cannot tell someone to remain where they are, to spend their entire life as a refugee, and for their children to grow up as refugees as well.

I used to tell people, even at the beginning of our liberation struggle, that whatever treatment we received in the countries where we lived, they were not the people I had a grievance against. After all, it was my own country that had denied me the right to return because it claimed there was no room for me. The people I had a grievance against were those who had the responsibility to guarantee my rights in my own country, but instead denied them. Those were the people we had to confront. “Had Rwanda not stood up and taken responsibility and brought ourselves this far, we would be nothing. There would still be people coming to feed us.

When others complement what you are already trying to do, that is a good thing. But if you have done nothing yourself, if you have achieved nothing on your own, then you become nothing.

That is why we should always look back and remember. It helps guide us, including in the way we engage with others, whether in our region or beyond.

Most of you here are probably between the ages of 20 and 45.

Iki gihe cyo kwibuka no kuzirikana amateka mabi u Rwanda rwaciyemo kiremerera imitima ya benshi, cyane cyane abarokotse Jenoside. Uko imyaka itambuka haracyari ibikomere n’agahinda.

Uyu munsi nifuzaga kuguhumuriza wowe ugifite intimba no kongera kukubwira ngo: Komera, haracyari ibyiringiro kandi umugambi w’Imana ku buzima bwawe ni umugambi mwiza.

Ndagusengera rero ngo ntuheranwe n’agahinda, gira ibyiringiro kandi wizere ko Kristo yishyizeho intimba zacu, akaduha amahoro. Wizere ko Umugambi w’Imana ku buzima bwawe no ku muryango wawe ari mwiza.

Komera, Imana igukize umubabaro wose.

May the peace of God be with you all,

My family, together with all the churches of Zion Temple Celebration Centre, once again join Rwandans during this period of the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This time of remembrance and reflection on the painful history Rwanda went through weighs heavily on many hearts, especially the survivors of the Genocide. As the years go by, there are still wounds and sorrow.

Today, I would like to comfort you who are still grieving and remind you: Be strong, there is still hope, and God’s plan for your life is a good one.

The Bible says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

You who are surrounded by sorrow, take heart, for the Lord has a good plan for you. And when you look back, you will see that there is so much God has done for our nation over the past 32 years.

I therefore pray for you that you may not be overwhelmed by sorrow. Have hope and believe that Christ carried our grief and gives us peace. Believe that God’s plan for your life and your family is good.

Be strong, may God heal you from all pain.

REMEMBER, RISE AGAIN, AND BE REBUILT BY GOD.

Que la paix de Dieu soit avec vous tous,

Ma famille, ainsi que toutes les églises du Zion Temple Celebration Centre, se joignent une fois de plus aux Rwandais en cette période de la 32ème commémoration du Génocide perpétré contre les Tutsi de 1994.

Ce temps de souvenir et de réflexion sur l’histoire douloureuse qu’a traversée le Rwanda pèse lourdement sur de nombreux cœurs, en particulier ceux des survivants du Génocide. Au fil des années, les blessures et la douleur persistent.

Aujourd’hui, je voudrais consoler ceux qui sont encore dans le deuil et vous rappeler ceci : Soyez forts, il y an encore de l’espérance, et le plan de Dieu pour votre vie est bon.

La Bible dit : « Car je connais les projets que j’ai formés sur vous, dit l’Éternel, projets de paix et non de malheur, afin de vous donner un avenir et de l’espérance. » (Jérémie 29:11)

Toi qui es entouré de tristesse, prends courage, car l’Éternel a un bon plan pour toi. Et lorsque tu regardes en arrière, tu verras tout ce que Dieu a accompli pour notre nation au cours des 32 dernières années.

Je prie donc pour toi afin que tu ne sois pas accablé par la tristesse. Aie de l’espérance et crois que Christ a porté nos souffrances et nous donne la paix. Crois que le plan de Dieu pour ta vie et ta famille est bon.

Sois fort, que Dieu te guérisse de toute douleur.

I wish you a blessed new month of April. May it be for you a month of the Blood of Jesus Christ.

I declare the goodness of the Lord upon your life; may a heart that loves others and a spirit of mutual support be your portion, and may these be the strength that empowers you to pursue what is good.

For it is at the cross that we received strength and power from God. The blood that was shed on the cross brought us into a covenant between Christ and you. I pray that you be clothed with strength above any other, and that the blood of Christ surrounds you, your possessions, and your family.

As we remember the One who redeemed us, as a powerful reminder of hope and restoration of covenant through Christ, God redeems His children just as He redeems this world of ours. This is God’s plan of redemption for what belongs to us. And because God does not change, nothing in His plans for our lives is altered.

Before we fully understand the power of the resurrection, we must first recognize the destructive forces that often hinder our lives. Many times, we make choices that lead us toward destruction, whether out of ignorance or a desire to indulge in worldly pleasures. But the beauty of the resurrection is that we encounter our Redeemer through Christ’s resurrection. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is available every day. We should not accept destruction through our choices; instead, we can rely on the power of the resurrection, for it is there that we receive new life in Christ and strengthen our relationship with Him. We must examine our hearts and ask ourselves whether we have truly received the power of His resurrection. Have we allowed the troubles of this world to draw us away from our first love, which is the love of Christ?

We all need to hear words that encourage us so that we may continue growing in God. We all need to hear that God is still on our side, even when the situations we face seem impossible and without hope. We need to have our hands strengthened and be supported by our God.

How wonderful it is to know that Jesus dwells in me—not only in me, but in all God’s children. Yet there is a difference between knowing that you are a new creation and truly knowing that Christ lives in you—and in me.

I declare strength, protection, and blessing over your life, over what belongs to you, and over your loved ones.

I declare peace over your nation and over the world at large.

I declare mercy, power, and fresh anointing upon your church in this new month.

Be strong in the Lord Jesus. Let us continue to fix our eyes on Him in everything, and because He has already won the battle, we too are victorious—and more than conquerors.
