Kenyan police cornered peaceful protesters in a blocked alley, beat them up, then teargassed them.
"Larry ukienda tutauliwa," one of them said. "If you leave, we'll get killed."
Police brutality during protests against police brutality

KHRC is reminding telco companies— @SafaricomPLC, @AIRTEL_KE, and @TelkomKenya—that the High Court issued orders in May this year prohibiting any form of internet shutdown.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye's ruling came in response to a petition by ICJ-Kenya and others following the June 25, 2024, blackout during nationwide protests calling for good governance.
Safaricom and other telco companies must understand that any attempt to shut down the internet, throttle connectivity, or downgrade service to 2G as Kenyans rally for justice over police killings in 2024 would amount to contempt of court and attract legal consequences.
Similarly, KHRC warns @KenyaPower that switching off electricity during these protests demanding police accountability will trigger immediate legal action.

So far, people have been in the CBD for close to two hours. You haven't seen shops being vandalized, haven't seen any chaos, just people marching, peacefully. #June25th
The directive by the @CA_Kenya is an absolute nullity in law and an affront to fundamental rights espoused in and guaranteed by the Constitution. Our statutory institutions are established to facilitate the full realisation of our constitutional ethos, not to be conduits of obliterating the laws that make us a democratic society. We urge our media fraternity that they are under no obligation whatsoever to adhere to the distasteful and illegal directive by CA.
