The Special Tribunal Has Ordered The SIU To temporarily Return Five Seized Supercars Of Businessman Hangwani Maumela.
The Special Tribunal has ordered the SIU to temporarily return five seized supercars linked to alleged R2 billion Tembisa Hospital kingpin Hangwani Maumela.
Maumela who is known to have close links with President Cyril Ramaphosa is diectly linked to the R2 billion looting of the Tembisa Hospital.
The vehicles in question include two Aston Martins, two Ferraris and a Rolls Royce that were seized during raids on a Sandton mansion and a Ormars Den's Mpumalanga luxury dealership.
The court ruled that the cars must be released to Omar’s Motor Den, but only under strict conditions.
The verdict read;
"The dealership must provide security equal to each vehicle’s full market value, insure the cars and get approval before any sale.
The cars, their value, remain under the control of the court-appointed curator.
"The SIU insists this is not a loss for the state, saying the ruling actually preserves the value of the assets while investigations continue. The unit maintains the vehicles were bought at suspiciously discounted prices using proceeds of unlawful activity.
Investigators allege Maumela used family members and proxies to hide ownership of at least 26 high-value vehicles worth nearly R207 million," it read.
The main forfeiture case is still coming, with the SIU vowing to press ahead as questions around ownership, discounts and hospital corruption are tested in court.
