Comrade President Oliver Reginald Tambo, once said "The ANC will not be destroyed by external forces; it will only destroy itself from within," a quote most often recalled in moments of internal turbulence within our movement, however without necessarily internalising it. His warning was clear: the ANC’s strength lies in its unity and moral standing, and any deviation from these principles would lead to its demise.

Fast forward to today, we see Tambo's words materializing in the political quagmire engulfing the movement. Factionalism has created deep divisions, turning comrades into adversaries and reducing internal debates to hostile contests. Gatekeeping has robbed the organization of its vibrancy, sidelining grassroots voices and paving the way for opportunism. The arrogance of numbers in most processes often silences critical thinking, favoring conformity over accountability. Political purging and the silencing of dissenting views have bred a culture of fear, where loyalty to factions trumps loyalty to principles. Patronage networks have eroded the ANC’s moral compass, prioritizing personal gain over public service.

The cancer of these practices threatens not just the ANC but the broader democratic project it once championed. If the movement is to survive and thrive, it must confront these challenges with the urgency Tambo envisioned, reclaiming its values of unity, selflessness, and service to the people. Only then can it honor the sacrifices of those who built it and secure its future as a true leader of society. All the latter is what is killing our beloved political home, and we ought to channel of anger and frustrations towards eradication of this cancerous behaviours of factionalism, gatekeeping, arrogance of numbers, political purging, silencing of desenting views by a dominant faction, corruption and patronage! #ANC113 🖤💚💛
