Lyrics: America, where are you now? Don't you care about your sons or daughters? Don't you know, we need you now! We can't fight alone against the monster.
@nashunals@DistrictOnDeck@DCBerk@andrewpindc Two of the relievers mentioned are in teams within two games of WC. Don’t see Cards selling. And the four SP mentioned are almost all of the decent SPs available. A lot of the rental SPs expected to be available are on teams like the Cards Nats W Sox that are over performing.
@PaulCubbage23 A three way tie for the third WC against two teams that will add at the deadline and another team half a game behind is more discouraging than what I expected to see at this point but very exciting still
@klwoodjr Rizzo was an absolute wizard at stitching together top teams with almost no help from the farm (His Farm) for ten years except top six picks Rendon Staus and Harper. He gets credit for that.
@waltersbardc@NavyYardNats@DKSports The GMs job is to draft/trade/develop a young core that can get 80 wins. Then the owners job is to spend to get and keep the team at 90 wins. Rizzo did that in 2010 and Learners spent with Werth and Max running a top 7-10 payroll through 2022. This was not an 80 win team in Jan.
@georgerlewis Gio. That was the Learners second big spend after Werth. A fine pitcher who aged into the master of the 8 pitch walk often leaving scoreless games in the 4th at 84 pitches
@georgerlewis I’m with you that there should be selling and no buying but did want to grudgingly admit there is a counterpoint. More of a traditional baseball one. Tobo should start releasing their internal make the playoff odds predictions weekly. That will probably help the soft sell case.
@NationalsSource Nice plan. Sell Griffen and Littel if good offers, add some cheap but adequate relievers. Nats know how cover up SP gaps with bullpen shuffles.
@klwoodjr Don’t think you are counting the hit to the Farm system of deadline trades correctly. The Nats will get decent pieces and the deadline by trading Griffen and Littel and a something for Mikolas so the farm system takes a hit just by staying put even before any trades.
@NavyYardNats Mike Trout’s Angels liked to throw a lot of money at 74 win teams to make them 82. Got them nowhere. You spend when your spending can lift your team to 90 wins.
@DistrictBSB@AJ_Lich I think Tobo will lean college player and probably a hitter. I am convinced - based on nothing - he plans on trading for his top end cost controlled pitcher like the O’s did using the college hitter he drafts next week.
@NavyYardNats@barrysvrluga@TheAthletic@nytimes We miss Rizzo. Took all the heat for shutting Strausberg down while Nats were chasing a playoff spot. Terrible at drafting but built a ten year contender with amazing trades and FA signings.
@Texas_Pundit@SambaD23222@RadioFreeTom The US Navy retaking Hormuz which did not happen because all the defenses you list as “gone” were not really gone. Except on Fox.
@PaulCubbage23 I recall when Rizzo signed a decent 2b Murphy as FA from Mets and got three All Star years because Murphy became a hit it in the air fanatic. Interviewed about his new success he said “hit it in the air.” “That’s it?” “That’ it.”
@georgerlewis I’d rather save dollars for any big hitter contracts to make runs at Woods and CJ. Not sure there is room in Nats budget next three years for three pricy hitters, a rebuilt bullpen and some starting help. Risk is you may not get them of course.
