On the 17th of April 2024, I will attempt to break the Guiness World record for the longest Chess marathon in the heart of Times Square New York City for 58 hours without losing a game.
Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education.
The summary of my advice on career would be this:
—Diversify your interests.
—Build a transferable skillset you could take with you across roles and industries.
—Focus on the goal, but be flexible about the path you may take to get there.
Thinking like a Data Analyst didn’t come easily for me.
I'd spend hours staring at datasets, unsure what questions to ask.
I knew I had to change if I wanted to have a successful career in data.
Luckily, I found a way through.
Here's what I did in 4 steps:

Why Including Both Hard and Soft Skills in Your SOP is Crucial for Admission Success
When applying for a graduate program, one of the most important components of your application is your Statement of Purpose (SOP). This is your opportunity to showcase your skills and experiences and convince the admissions committee that you're a strong candidate for the program.
When writing your SOP, it's important to highlight both your hard and soft skills, as both are valuable and contribute to your potential success in the program. Hard skills refer to technical or academic abilities that you have acquired through education or work experience. These may include specific knowledge or expertise in a particular field, programming languages, data analysis, or laboratory techniques.
Your hard skills demonstrate your proficiency and expertise in your chosen field and can be an important factor in your admission decision. Soft skills, on the other hand, refer to personal attributes that enable you to interact effectively and harmoniously with others. Examples of soft skills include communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, time management, and leadership. These skills are important in any profession and can help demonstrate your character and work ethic. When writing your SOP, it's important to include both your hard and soft skills. While your hard skills demonstrate your technical expertise, your soft skills demonstrate your ability to work well with others, navigate various situations, and be an effective and professional team player. Highlighting your soft skills in your SOP can make you stand out from other applicants, as it shows your potential for success in the program and beyond. When discussing your hard skills, provide specific examples of how you've used them in academic or professional contexts. This can include coursework, research projects, or relevant work experience. When discussing your soft skills, provide specific examples of how you've demonstrated them in the past. This can include instances where you've worked collaboratively on a team, shown leadership in a particular project or initiative, adapted to new situations or challenges, or communicated effectively with others.
To conclude your SOP, summarize the key points you've made and reiterate why both your hard and soft skills make you an ideal candidate for the program. Express your enthusiasm for the program and the opportunity to contribute your skills and knowledge. Remember to keep your SOP focused and concise, using specific examples and evidence to back up your claims. In summary, highlighting both your hard and soft skills in your SOP is crucial to your admission success. By demonstrating your technical proficiency and your ability to work effectively with others, you can convince the admissions committee that you're the ideal candidate for the program.
Good luck with your application!
