EVAN CARMICHAEL who has 588K INSTAGRAM followers, shared a reel about #V's rise to the top..

▪️This boy went to an audition just to cheer on a friend, but ended up becoming the 1st K-pop soloist to hit 100 million SPOTIFY streams in the 1st week of his album release.

▪️Meet #V, whose real name is KIM TAEHYUNG, one of the 7 members of BTS. #V was born on Dec 30, 1995 in DAEGU, S.KOREA. He grew up as the oldest of 3 kids in a farming family. He helped with the farm as a child & spent a lot of time with his grandparents.

▪️From elementary school, he dreamed of becoming a singer. His father believed in that dream & encouraged him to learn the saxophone in middle school, paying for 3 years of lessons so he had a solid musical foundation to build on.

▪️In 2011, at 15 years old, V went with a friend to a BIG HIT ENTERTAINMENT audition in DAEGU. He had no plan to audition. He was just there to cheer on his friend, but a staff member spotted him & asked if he wanted to try out. He said yes. He danced, sang & beatboxed.

The staff kept asking him to show more, so he came back with his saxophone & played that, too. His friend didn't make it, but he did.

▪️#V moved to SEOUL to begin training alongside the other future BTS members, but BIG HIT made a decision that would test him for the next 2 years.

Founder BANG SI-HYUK believed #V was too good to be revealed early. He was worried bigger companies would try & recruit him away. He wanted the reveal to make the biggest impact possible, so he kept him completely hidden.

While the other members posted videos & built a fanbase starting in 2012, #V sat quietly at the back & watched. He wasn't allowed to appear in any of it.

"When all the members were shooting for their own logs, I was the only one who couldn't, so I was very sad," he later admitted.

▪️His face wasn't revealed until Jun 2, 2013, just 11 days before BTS debuted on Jun 13, 2013. Fans who had been following the group suddenly discovered there was a 7th member they had never seen.

BANG SI-HYUK later said, "#V had great charms in terms of appearance & personality, so I thought it would be impactful when he was revealed last." BTS debuted, but the early years were a grind.

▪️BIG HIT was a small company with few resources & the group spent years fighting for attention in a crowded industry. #V kept working.

In 2016, he co-wrote his solo track STIGMA for the album WINGS & made his acting debut in the KBS2 historical drama HWARANG: THE POET WARRIOR YOUTH.

▪️On Sept 8, 2023, a decade after his debut, #V released his solo album LAYOVER. It sold over 2.1 million copies in its 1st week of the HANTEO Chart, the best 1st week sales of any solo artist in the chart's history. It also became the first album by a K-pop soloist to earn over 100 million SPOTIFY streams in a single week.
