Sana Yousuf. A young woman with dreams, just trying to carve out a space for herself in this world. What was her crime? That she was born in Pakistan? That she dared to exist—publicly, confidently, unapologetically?
With 750k followers on TikTok and 500k on Instagram, Sana was building something of her own. A voice. A platform. A life.
And so she was brutally murdered—by her own cousin. A man who believed her existence, her visibility, was a stain on his version of “honour.”
Don't take it as isolated incident, In Pakistan, this has a name: Karo-Kari. In 2021 alone, over 470 such “honour” killings were reported. That’s 470 lives stolen for things as simple as making a choice.
We live in the 21st century—an age of innovation, space travel, artificial intelligence. And yet, so many Muslim women across the world are still struggling with the most basic thing: the right to simply exist. To have a presence. To speak. To choose.
Sana didn’t offend society. She exposed it. And that, they couldn’t tolerate.
May she rest in power. And may we never stop raising our voices—for every Sana who couldn’t.

Today 35 years ago my family along with my entire community of Kashmiri Hindus were forced into exile from our homeland Kashmir by Islamist Jihadi terrorists. Few years ago I spoke briefly about our story on @TEDx.
