Tale of two generations of displacement

My nephews left Afghanistan for Sweden 2 years ago. They're excelling at school/ college and are giving back to their local community.

I came to the UK from Afghanistan more than 2 decades ago. I became a doctor humanitarian and am proudly giving back to society.

Our lives have been changed, and we have realised our dreams because of the safety, kindness and opportunities we have received.

Let compassion and fairness be our guide in treating displaced and vulnerable people in 2024; not hatred, division or racism.

My nephews, Wasim, Sulaiman and Elyas, wish you all a Happy New Year.
