I thought about this and realized I believe people who care about you can mistreat you. For me I want to normalize saying "this treatment is unacceptable regardless of how someone feels about me" and move on from there

Today was another body shaming day at work.

Conso (not in my unit): Ahan, Hephzibah, how are you?

Me: Fine, sir.

Conso: What are you holding?

Me: Snacks, Sir.

Conso: You that you're already fat, you're still eating what will make you fatter.

Me: It's Kulikuli, sir. (it was in a fancy bag, so he thought it was small chops)

Conso: It's a lie. Open it.

Me: *Opens the bag*

Conso: I'm not scared. I thought it was those small chops they sell. Those things are fattening and you need to lose weight.

Me: Oga, do you know that a lot of men in their 50s have truncal obesity? And nobody body shames them. But women get body shamed everywhere, even at work.

Conso: Men like me, abi?

Me: Oga, I didn't say anything. 😇

That's how the conversation should have ended, but because I have home training, I smiled and kept it moving.

Body shaming is not mentorship. It is not a concern. It is just bad manners and a lack of boundaries wrapped up in seniority.

Reg is now a Conso, who absolutely adores the Conso(Stockholm syndrome, i guess) and will never forget that moment.
