This is absolutely fucked. I don't care how much flack I get for saying this, but whoever did this is an ignorant asshole.

Indigenous people have lived here for thousands of years. Then, a little over 100 years ago, shortly before Alberta even existed, white people showed up, horribly mistreated them, put their children in residential schools (most of them against their will, and many of whom were beaten and raped) in an attempt to permanently destroy their entire culture. It worked.

In a few generations, an entire culture was uprooted, abused and altered to the point where they have been widely unable to adapt. Seriously, how the fuck do you expect things should have gone after everything? To say that they "have done nothing" is absolutely fucking disgusting. Do you have any idea how much inherent resentment remains? Do you understand that this has created generational strife? Sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse. This, after they're put onto reserves with absolutely no autonomy or agency. There's no chance to get ahead. There's no incentive. By blaming them, you're saying that our government is doing absolutely everything feasible to help and that it's not working because of them, not the government. We all know that's not true. We all know our government has continued to fail them. We all know that our government has used and tokenized them for political purposes. Blaming Indigenous people for this situation is to excuse and defend our corrupt government. We all know Canadian FN people (and every other Indigenous culture on Earth) are being used by global forces to enact specific agendas and that our governments are used to facilitate.

Sorry if people don't like hearing this shit and it makes them uncomfortable, but this is exactly what happened. This is what's still happening. Our governments over the last century created this fucking mess and it is REALLY shitty for us to blame Indigenous people for the situation that they were born into.
