It’s basically “the car in the middle needs to back up first” logic.

Cars 2, 3, and 4 are all blocking the center intersection. They’re nose-to-nose, so none can move forward without the other moving first. That’s the traffic jam.
3 is the one directly in the middle of the Y-junction. If Car 3 reverses a bit, it opens the intersection
