The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India
The Hon'ble Minister of Education, Government of India
The Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
Respected Shri Amit Shah Ji
Respected Members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
Subject: Humble Request for Grant of 20 Grace Marks to All RT Students in the Interest of Fairness, Equity, and Student Welfare
Respected Sir,
Namaskar.
With utmost respect and humility, I wish to submit this sincere representation regarding students who have been placed in the Repeat in Theory (RT) category in the recent CBSE examinations. I earnestly request the Government of India and the CBSE authorities to consider granting 20 grace marks to all RT students as a compassionate and equitable measure.
My submission is based on the following considerations:
1. Introduction of the OSM System Without Student Orientation
For generations, students have been trained to write conventional descriptive answers in answer sheets. However, this year, evaluation was conducted through the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Students were not adequately informed about how presentation, structuring, or visibility of answers in the digital evaluation environment might affect their marks. Had they been properly guided, they could have adapted their writing styles accordingly. Therefore, the absence of such orientation justifies the grant of grace marks.
2. Inadequate Training and Familiarity Among Evaluators
Several concerns have been raised regarding the preparedness of teachers and evaluators for the new digital evaluation mechanism. A sudden transition to a technology-driven assessment process without comprehensive training may naturally result in inconsistencies. Students should not suffer because of systemic challenges beyond their control. This circumstance also merits compassionate consideration.
3. Concerns Raised by Teachers on Evaluation Conditions
Reports and discussions on social media indicate that many evaluators expressed dissatisfaction regarding working conditions and procedural issues during the assessment process. If such concerns affected the evaluation environment, students cannot be held responsible. Their future should not become a casualty of administrative or operational shortcomings.
4. A Humanitarian Approach Towards RT Students
Students who have narrowly missed the qualifying marks require encouragement rather than disappointment. Granting 20 grace marks to RT candidates would restore confidence, protect their academic progression, and uphold the welfare-oriented spirit of Indian education.
5. Lessons from the COVID-19 Period
During the COVID-19 pandemic, extraordinary measures were adopted to safeguard students' futures, including alternative evaluation methods and compassionate academic policies. Similarly, if substantial concerns exist regarding the implementation of the OSM system, a broad and humane approach may once again serve the larger interests of justice and student welfare.
6. Trust Between Students and Institutions
Many students and parents sincerely believe that they have worked hard and performed better than their results indicate. Whether every concern is ultimately established or not, maintaining public confidence in educational institutions is essential. A compassionate grace policy would strengthen trust and demonstrate that institutions stand with students during difficult times.
7. The Need for Moral and Administrative Leadership
Courts often defer to the academic wisdom of expert bodies such as CBSE. Consequently, the final responsibility and opportunity to provide relief rest substantially with the Board itself. Compassionate administrative leadership can achieve what prolonged litigation cannot.
8. Financial Constraints Faced by Ordinary Families
A large number of students come from economically modest backgrounds and cannot afford lawyers fees.
With profound respect and hope,
