Heatwave advice during ‘red’ heat health alert

Hot weather can be dangerous for everyone, not just those who are usually considered vulnerable. Dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke can develop quickly, especially during prolonged periods in the sun.

Please take sensible precautions:
💧 Drink plenty of water
☀️ Avoid the hottest part of the day where possible
🧢 Wear light clothing and use sun protection
👵 Check in on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people

Nearly 200 accidental water deaths happened in the UK in 2024. Even on hot days, cold water shock, hidden hazards and strong currents can be deadly.

📞 Call 999
🗣️ Float – tell them to stay on their back
⭕ Throw – use anything that floats
⚠️ Never enter the water to attempt a rescue unless you are trained and equipped to do so.
