@RJPartington@PippaCrerar "The yield – in effect the interest rate – on UK government bonds rose by about six points to trade above 4.2%" - basis points?
@DPJHodges@JohnRentoul It's really not because I don't think anybody is going to be won over by it or even feel anything mildly positive about him/it; it just incites a "no, don't you dare pretend you can share this magical moment with us" reaction. And it's so bloody obvious.
Quote of the decade?
“We have learned the hard way that politicians who we feel are just a little bit of a joke can be dangerous" https://t.co/3b6mfGS71g
@JohnRentoul I imagine someone in the socials team is just having a laugh knowing that it's all fruitless and maybe they're out of a job in a week anyway (maybe on a zero hours contract)
@florianederer Woosh! is I think what you say to things like this. More like HMS Not very familiar with English humour, particularly The Guardian (as it would appear to be).
I don't think you can blame Labour for the fiscal unrealism. Both parties are at it. And they are at it because people find economics and statistics and large numbers, and public policy, hard. Because it *is* hard and people have other things to do, lives to lead...
And herein lies the problem: see this WhatsApp from a senior No.10 aide.
CCHQ didn't like me describing their gender focus as a "culture war" tactic last night.
Seems questions are for hacks who write about issues in ways the Tories approve of. Not ideal for press freedom.
@ClarkHistoryPol@robfordmancs But at what point does "shy Tory" become "ashamed Tory" and not vote for them? Possibly for many it has gone past that point.
Seat projections from the new MRP poll for @Telegraph
Labour 516
Tories 53
Lib Dems 50
SNP 8
Plaid 4
Reform 0
This suggests the Lib Dems are in touching distance of becoming the official opposition.
@jamesrbuk@TheNewEuropean Thank you. I think it's the "campaign" screws up bit that has the potential to send one off in the wrong direction. But yes, it's a fair and serious point.
@soniapurnell I think it's fair (although not wise) to complain they're all bad. I would more strongly advocate joining (at least temporarily) the party that is the least bad and voting (after due diligence) for the least bad leader when given the choice, as I did (with a favourable outcome).
Nothing original in the design/direction (+especially music!) but if you're going for this kind of thing, I'd say this is how you do it: on-the-money text, visuals, editing supporting the message. Particularly like how the text transitions manage to stay appropriate/interesting.
