A barrister is facing a criminal record and even prison after he pulled 200 bags of rubbish from a section of the River Roding in Barking

Paul Powlesland aged 40 a barrister and environmentalist organized volunteers to clear 200 bags of rubbish including needles and weapons from a polluted section of the River Roding in Barking east London in March 2026 using a hired digger.

The Environment Agency sent him a letter alleging he carried out works without an environmental permit launching an investigation under the Environmental Permitting Regulations with potential penalties of up to two years in prison.

Powlesland said this river will be restored they now have a clear choice they can fight me and all the other amazing volunteers doing the work or they can get on board and help us and become the good guys in this.

He added we have got irises and reed beds coming back I saw fish in there for the first time a couple of weeks ago dragonflies and herons returning with the whole ecosystem coming back to life.

The EA said they welcome communities taking steps to improve their local environment but insisted undertaking work without the appropriate permits is not acceptable to prevent unintended harm to flood risk drainage or the wider environment.

Powlesland vowed to continue his clean up efforts criticizing the need for licences for volunteer work and pointing to an upstream Thames Water sewage outlet as a source of pollution.

"Human rights organisation Medico International and the German network “Coordination gegen Bayer-Gefahren“ (Coordination against Bayer Dangers, CBG) have reported that the glyphosate and white phosphorus used by the Israeli occupation forces in Lebanon were produced in Germany.

At the beginning of February this year, reports emerged in the international media alleging that the Israeli army had deployed the environmental toxin glyphosate in southern Lebanon and in occupied Syria.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, glyphosate concentrations in some samples taken in the region exceeded “normal levels by around 20 to 30 times”. Lebanon’s president Joseph Aoun described the situation as “environmental and health crimes”.

The incident is of particular relevance to Germany, as the US-based glyphosate manufacturer Monsanto was acquired in 2018 by the German chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer, one of the world’s largest chemical corporations. As a result, not only did Germany’s mainstream media take up the issue – despite their otherwise consistent reluctance to report on Israeli war crimes – but the matter also reached the agenda of the German Bundestag.

However, there has been little in the way of public outrage. After a few critical remarks, the issue quickly faded from public debate, and it is unlikely that a wider German audience is aware that Israel is not only carrying out a genocide in Gaza using German-supplied weapons, attacking Iran and Lebanon with German arms, enforcing the blockade of Gaza with German naval vessels, and raiding Gaza Solidarity flotillas with the same equipment, but is also reportedly using chemical agents produced with German industrial involvement."

Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth’s crusade to purge women and people of color from our Armed Forces has never been subtle.

But today, a New York Times exposé revealed exactly how far he’s gone to dismantle the careers and achievements of our finest servicemen and women.

More than a dozen military insiders — both active duty and those already purged — spoke to the Times anonymously to unmask a horrific ongoing attack.

They detailed a process used by Hegseth and his team to halt senior officer advancements for reasons completely unrelated to merit, job performance, or fighting wars.

Hegseth’s efforts are part of a quest to advance his white-and-male centered worldview, facts, history, and actual service be damned.

In the absence of any such evidence, insiders confirmed that he has used his position to withhold promotions from qualified, decorated veterans. The Times cited several enraging examples:

• Last fall, Hegseth ordered Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll to remove two Black and two female officers from a 29-person promotion list. Driscoll repeatedly refused, citing their decades of exemplary service. In March, Hegseth bypassed him, removed their names, and sent the modified list to the White House.

• In total, Hegseth has removed 32 officers from Air Force and Navy one- and two-star promotion lists. He also pulled the only Black officer and the only female officer from a Marine Corps list, leaving their promotions in limbo.

• Vice Adm. Sara Joyner, a highly decorated three-star fighter pilot, saw her advancement stalled over a 2021 Navy recruiting ad where she said, "I’m not just a girl with a dream. I’m a sailor with one." Hegseth deemed the line a "big problem." Joyner has since retired.

• Rear Adm. Stephen D. Barnett was recommended for a promotion after successfully managing the aftermath of a massive Navy fuel spill in Hawaii. Hegseth blocked his advancement after Barnett participated in a Navy-sponsored Pride event back in 2018.

It is an outrage to watch a media personality whose greatest battles have been with hangovers intentionally harm the careers of people who risked everything to keep America safe. Hegseth’s actions are insult to all who have served and a risk to national security.

Australian Border Force (ABF) then reclassified the product as drinking liquor instead of cooking alcohol. This triggered a much higher duty of $100 per litre plus GST, making the business unviable.
Following an audit, the ABF issued GJ Food a $2.4 million retroactive bill, which drove the second-generation family company into collapse. The closure resulted from regulator rulings and audits, not from any parliamentary legislation.
Owner Rene Puechberty publicly criticised Albanese, saying his local MP failed to help reverse the decision.

Trump’s DOJ just shut down a federal investigation into a coal company owned by Sen. Jim Justice, one of his closest allies, after it racked up tens of thousands of alleged violations for dumping dangerous chemicals into our waterways. A veteran federal prosecutor with 24 years on the job said he had never seen anything like it.  

The man who killed the case was Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense lawyer and current Acting Attorney General. This is the same guy who just gave Trump, his family, and his companies permanent immunity from IRS audits. Now Trump wants the Senate to make Blanche’s appointment permanent too.  

Equal justice under law was never supposed to come with exceptions for the President’s friends.  

The pattern isn’t subtle: protect Trump’s friends, prosecute his critics, and get rewarded with more power. That is corruption, plain and simple. Todd Blanche must not be confirmed.
