J.C. Escarra blew an early challenge on a pitch that wasn't close, is 0-for-1 at the plate and wasn't able to throw out a basestealer. He's hitting .186 with a .517 OPS, but the Yankees tells us that he would be a starter on a lot of teams.
Michael Kay and Paul O'Neill have spent the first two innings talking about how bad Slade Cecconi has been this year.
He's allowed one bloop single in two innings.
Aaron Boone went to his best two middle relievers in a one-run game and then decided to bring in Paul Blackburn with it still a one-run game. So he had Fernando Cruz and Tim Hill both pitch across multiple innings only to bring in Blackburn. You can’t make it up.
@FranksYanks23 I don’t hate Volpe. I hate what he represents in the Yankees’ arrogance and roster construction issues. He sucks, but I would take Caballero and Volpe over Caballero and McMahon.
David Bednar is pitching with the Yankees trailing by two runs against the bottom of the order instead of pitching with a one-run lead against the top of the order because of Aaron Boone’s obsession with set bullpen innings for relievers.
