@leherto @StonedNerd314 It's tough to recall now, but I think Red Planet was the very first scifi book I ever read....it's neck and neck in my blurry memory with Lucky Starr and the Rings of Saturn. After reading both those juvenile series, prowling used bookstores led me to H. Beam Piper...mind blown!

@leherto @StonedNerd314 It blew my mind as a teenager. I had read nearly all of Heinlein's juvenilles scifi adventures series by 1985, but strangely enough stumbled into Armor and read it before I looped back to "discover" Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land, Revolt in 2100, etc.

@retro_dodo Civilization 1. DOS. None of this isometric nonsense. Flat, distraction free almost like you were at the kitchen table with an Avalon Hill wargame of hexes and cardboard square units with stats printed on them such as Squad Leader. All strategy killer, no graphics filler.
