If your family engagement plan measurement counts increases in participation at events, then, it is likely that student learning will not be impacted. Family engagement is not about more events or more people attending events. It's about the authenticity of promoting efficacy.

Engaging families for the sake of engaging families or being compliant with expectations will not move the needle on relationships and student learning. We need to build trusting relationships with families and promote their efficacy which also will help leverage equity.

Many believe that families who do not respond to requests for participation are apathetic toward their children's education. Not true. There r dozens of reasons why disengagement exists, apathy is rarely one of them. Maybe we should take stock in the manner in which we engage?
