The All For One London screening had this magical ability to throw me back ~10 years to before I became a Boring Adult. Back when my calendar revolved around conventions and meeting up with UK anitwitter. It was so good. β€οΈ
@stargazermellu Highly recommended!
The comments on this announcement over on ε°ηΊ’δΉ¦ are great, people asking βIs this leak accurate?β on the official post and all.
@nucknyan It is so telling when people in my LAN group actively choose to buy a game on Steam (sometimes at full price!) even if they already got it free on the Epic Games Store.
@a66ot Almost all issuers have a process where if a customer is in a negative balance (with no overdraft), they will be asked to add money. If the customer remains in a negative balance, their account will be closed and the issuer will attempt to reclaim from the merchant via disputes.
@a66ot Yes, that will go through, but the customer/issuer will have dispute rights (in most cases) because you didn't obtain an authorisation.
Holding a pre-authorisation guarantees that you can claim that money at presentment time.
@a66ot I have no idea what Revolut is doing behind the scenes but you can't decline a presentment and the contactless framework means it can't be charged back under normal circumstances so either it has to be reclaimed from the customer via a negative balance or the issuer takes a loss.
I can entirely believe this. have watched entire teams of very smart and highly educated people get outclassed by one person with some local street smarts and a good vibe check
Heard an incredible story about Stripe's expansion in Romania
Wanted to build out a 20-person fraud detection team to be closer to the "source"
Rented a whole floor, posted senior engineer positions with β¬1,200/month salary
Then they interviewed the guy named Marius
"What's your experience with unauthorized transactions?" Stripe HR asked
"I once moved three BMWs from Munich to Constantia in 24h, without technically owning them"
Hired on the spot
By lunch, he'd identified a card theft ring Stripe had been tracking for months
"Those transactions from Germany? That must be Misha crew, they drive there every second Tuesday"
Turns out Marius catches more fraud in a day than Stripe's entire SF team did in a month
Stripe saves on office expenses too as Marius works remotely from his uncle's betting shop in Timisoara
Silicon Valley just discovered what we've always known
One Romanian is worth twenty Stanford engineers
Another incredible win for Europe
