When the Kenyan youths (Gen Z) organized nationwide peaceful protests to exercise their democratic right rejecting the proposed 2024/2025 Finance Bill, other groups with criminal minds took advantage of the situation and devised schemes to cause harm and economically frustrate fellow Kenyans.

Posing as demonstrators, the bad elements who were also well-organized earmarked several business premises including boutiques, electronic shops and supermarkets, breaking in and massively looting to the detriment of innocent business owners.

As a criminal investigative agency, it squarely falls within the mandate of the DCI to investigate and bring to book any persons involved in such outright criminality, which not only robbed numerous Kenyans their means of livelihood, but also worked towards compromising an otherwise crucial constitutional right.

In that regard, the DCI’s Imaging and Acoustic Unit domiciled at the National Forensic Laboratory has since retrieved numerous CCTV footages that captured identifiable persons, whose felonious acts isolates them from the hundreds of thousands that stuck to their course.

Whereas some have already been arrested and arraigned in various courts today, more are still out there on the streets waiting for other opportune times to strike again, causing more damage and risking the lives of innocent citizens caught up in the course of quelling the crimes.

We can flush them from amongst our numbers because they do not share the principles that define what we stand for, and more so for the sake of those who did not deserve to lose their only means of livelihood in this manner.

ALICE BELDINA ANYANGO;
KA NYAKO OSOMO GIMABER AHINYA.

In the early 70s.. around 1972, an amazing song in honor of a great lady, was released by Continental Kilo(CK) Jazz Band; "Kilo rahuma.." which was then led by George Ramogi;
(Omogi Madiaba omin Akumu wuod Weta Kamwala).

The song would later become instrumental in sensitizing the community about the need to empower girl child just like the boy child.

Composed by Peter Auma Kabwere Jamawego, the song titled "Alice B Anyango" was done in honor of the lady whose photo has been attached here. When Mr Wilson Were , a Benga fan, got an opportunity to talk to Mr Ben Opondo(Rasto) who's her only brother, it came out that the lady was born in 1939 at Konyango sub-location, Rachuonyo North sub-county in Homabay county.

Born to Mzee Emmanuel Owuor Obuya and mama Silpa Osano, she was named Alice Belsheba Anyango. Others also knew her as Alice Beldina Anyango.

Alice schooled at Kamagambo where she wrote her highschool exams before proceeding to Mombasa for her P 1 Teaching course. Upon completing the course, she was first posted to Wagwe primary school, before being transferred to a school near her matrimonial home in Kochia. She later secured an employment at the Nigerian High Commission where she worked for 27 years.

With exquisite lyrics and carefully chosen words, the artiste praises Alice as a combination of beauty, brilliance and determination. Unlike most of our current musicians who sexualize ladies in the name of praising them, the musician here focuses more on Alice Anyango's values and capabilities. Released at a time when some people still didn't see the importance of taking girls to school, the song became an instant hit with its catchy chorus "Kanyako osomo gima ber ahinya" taking the airwaves by a storm.

And as if trying to debunk a notion held by some people then, that it's only a boy who was capable of uplifting the status of his family, Peter Jamawego, expresses his admiration towards some of the great strives Alice was making to uplift the status of her family. This includes "a beautiful home" that she "built" for her parents which "shone" so brightly that it could be seen from as far as Suna Migori, Mbita, Maseno or Nyabondo! Must have been a magnificent home, right?

Now on the shining of dalagi Anyango.. the meaning and reason why dalagi nene rieny gi kuonde ang'wen, this is how she built the home as explained below;

This was so because Anyango was the first born and she had 4 siblings and all these four siblings she educated them; one was a teacher in Mbita, another was a teacher in Maseno, another one a nurse at Nyabondo Mission Hospital and another one an accountant in Suna.
So if you went to all these four places, the work of Anyango was shining.. products from Anyango's home was shining.. hence dalau Anyango nyadundo rieny owada katichung' Suna, Mbita, Maseno, Nyabondo..
That is how Anyango nene "ogero dalagi.."

This is a song whose potent message has continued to inspire and motivate our ladies to pursue their goals in life. During the Africities summit in Kisumu, governor Professor Anyang' Nyong'o sang a rendition of the song to the amusement of those in attendance. That only shows that a great song with beautiful lyrics will always stand the test of time.

This song will forever be a hit which is worth listening to in the presence of a daughter, a sister, a niece, an aunt and any other female relative and/or friend. Even though Alice B Anyango passed on around 2021, our airwaves will continue reverberating with the beats of this great song which was done in her honor!
