@tomsherwood@politicshour@wcp Let's discuss why Washington, D. C. cannot become a state and should instead seek representation as if we were a state, with "a vote in the House and a voice in the Senate" as practical interim goals.
Good reason to vote for D. C. Republicans: If the win the House majority, DCGOP elected officials will be more effective at protecting DC autonomy from harmful interference with our local government. See https://t.co/qndVojOkMj
@postlocal If the Republicans gain control in the new Congress, there will be no local control of parole or many other state functions for a long time, if ever.
@SharonElizaDC @CdLlortin5 @EleanorNorton 250 miles is too far for most families to travel for visits. She should just acknowledge that D. C. needs a prison for its incarcerated felons, one with accountability to the local government. It is a state function; one of several that D. C. must take back to be a state.
@WreckaCenter You can't do better than anything by David McCullough -- John Adams is my favorite, but they are all wonderful. Also the memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant. Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer combines ecology, and Native American spirituality with lovely storytelling.
Del. Norton is requesting DC felons be assigned to Bur. of Prisons facility near D. C. Why can't she just admit that we need our own prison here? It's a statehood function. See my blog post on a prison for D. C. @ https://t.co/oYEHYwSxL4
