America should have a universal job guarantee. We have so much work to do as a country. We should have centers that I can show up to at 7am with my ID and get assigned work for the day. Trash clean up, food pantry distribution I mean the possibilities are endless

Confronting family dysfunction is a protest. Questioning harmful beliefs you've been taught is a protest. Walking away from abusive relationships is a protest. Breaking the cycle is a protest. Be cautious of anyone trying to silence the importance of your protest.
Wanting to harm yourself is a super common symptom of complex trauma that many misunderstand.
They don't get that that's how badly we want to change what we're feeling & experiencing right now-- that it's an impulse that can be driven by self-preservation, not just self-hate.
An empathetic child pays a serious price for having an abusive parent. They carry the confusion of wanting to help the parent be better, while also fearing them. This is the state in which many childhood trauma survivors enter adulthood. They deserve understanding and to heal.
If you are autistic, please do what you can to find autistic friends. I have struggled to understand relationships my entire life. None of it had to do with adapting better. All of it had to do with being autistic and being misunderstood. Autism is hard and beautiful.
Part of my autistic experience is often finding comfort in consistency. It can be very reassuring for me when I discover an approach/technique/routine I can follow that will (if not every time then a lot of the time) lead to a predictable and desired result.
When you grow up in an abusive home, you don’t become a people pleaser to please people. You become a people pleaser to keep the potential for more abuse away.
